This iconic prayer is paired with flowing illustrations by award-winning artist Richard Jesse Watson and thoughtful insights by bestselling author Rick Warren, resulting in a book that rejuvenates the familiar prayer for a younger audience. Using poetic scripture from the King James Version, The Lords Prayer: Words of Hope and Happiness helps familiarize children with real biblical text while also presenting contemporary illustrations and insightful words that make this beautiful prayer come alive.

VeraNorth CarolinaAge: Over 65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Beautifully doneJanuary 10, 2017VeraNorth CarolinaAge: Over 65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is an absolutely lovely book that can take the child at varying ages through learning and understanding The Lord's Prayer. There are three elements to the text in this book. First and foremost is the King James Version of The Lord's Prayer as it is presented line by line on each two-page spread. The illustrations are bright, beautifully done, and clearly defining the meaning and expression of the prayer lines on that page spread.
Also included in the book is Rick Warren's carefully worded and easy to understand explanation of the prayer line presented on the current page. And then there is a short one sentence prayer to accompany this. Example:
"And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:" (KJV)
"God helps me to do what is right and good. And he helps me to not do what is wrong. I can ask God for help any time!" (Rick Warren)
(Prayer) "Thank you, God, for protecting me!"
I can see this being used first as a picture book to read and teach The Lord's Prayer to the child. Just read the prayer itself. No explanation. No, nothing else except perhaps what might very naturally be promoted by interest and innate questioning by the child.
Later, begin to read the text by Rick Warren as a "story book" to the child. Perhaps at this point the child will already have learned and will feed back to you The Lord's Prayer.
Then as opportunity arises, incorporate the short prayers into the reading.
Beautiful illustrations! Beautiful and well thought out text to accompany the beautiful prayer that our Lord and Saviour gave us as a pattern.
I highly recommend!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher.
BastianReviewsAlabamaAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Ok bookNovember 29, 2016BastianReviewsAlabamaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3The Lord's Prayer with commentaries by Rick Warren goes through the Lord's Prayer with additional comments, prayers by Rick Warren. The illustrations are beautiful, but I personally didn't love the book layout. The prayer is broken up by the commentaries and my toddler was not too interested in the story. This is a large beautifully bound hard cover book but may be better suited for early readers instead of toddlers.

It is the Lord's Prayer written in the King James Version, which is the version most of us would have memorized as children. Also included with each line of the prayer is a simple explanation of the verse written for children by Rick Warren.
This book is appropriate for children ages birth (it is never to early to start reading to your kids!) to five or six years. The cover is hardback and I would call this a board book. The pages are not paper but board. Inside, the illustrations are muted in color. The children pictured on each page appear real to life and are different ethnicities and varied ages. I love this book as a Christmas present for a baby or toddler on your list. It would definitely be treasured by the family that receives it.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by its publisher. I was not obligated to give it a positive review and all my opinions are own. I was interested in this particular book because of its content and the contribution of Rick Warren.
Frosty5 Stars Out Of 5Great Teaching ToolNovember 2, 2016FrostyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The Lord's Prayer is a beautiful picture book for young children. I'd say it would be good for ages three through eight. Divided into natural segments per page spread, Rick Warren shares a brief and personable reflection of what Jesus' words mean. I like that he added a sentence prayer with each one, too. Mr. Warren is known for encouraging and uplifting people. He does this for his young audience, too. Mr. Watson's illustrations are colorful, lively, thoughtful, and well done. This would be a great teaching tool to introduce children to the Lord's prayer either individually or in a class. And what a comfort and joy for a child to hear how much Jesus loves him or her through this beautiful prayer. I received this book for free from Zonderkidz.
