When the kids are crying, there's laundry to do, and you're exhausted, do you dream of escaping to a faraway place? For Mae, it was Paris. And it made her wonder - can we ever be content where we are? Here she examines the roots of these longings and shares how she learned to make every day an adventure.
Noteworthy: This author is one of a special group of women who writes for (in)courage, the popular online friendship community. Every day they take turns pulling up a chair to share their stories of what Jesus looks like in their every day, gloriously ordinary, and often messy lives.
If you read the (in)courage blog online, then you'll be sure to enjoy this title.

Most days, you wouldnt trade what you have for the world. You love your husband and your kids, and you are grateful to God for your life. But there are days when you feel as though life is rolling over you in waves and you are just going through the motions. You find yourself aching for something more, something that is calling to depths of who you are, maybe for something you cant even name.
For Sarah Mae, it was Paris, a place that is known for breathtaking beauty, inspiring art, and exquisite food. But as she searched her heart, she found there was more to her longings than she anticipated.
Join Sarah Mae in Longing for Paris, a soul-searching, light-filled journey for the woman who knows she cant uproot her life to discover herself and her longings, but who desperately wants to uncover them so she can get unstuck and choose a life that is filled with beauty, adventure, and deep joy . . . right where she is.
The daily grindmany women know and can picture what this means. Sarah Mae knows this routine well. She loves her family and her life but was giving up on dreams of Paris and settling into the mundane. Slowly, she realized God was re-awakening her longings and taking her on an adventure, where she found that her Paris wasnt so far out of reach after all.
Part memoir, part devotional, part inspirational-adventurism, Longing for Paris is a great read for any woman who feels like she may be in a rutwho still has grand dreams but doesnt know how to achieve them.
Chapters include brief sections called An Invitation to Paris, where Mae gives tips for infusing a bit of Paris into life. Immediately following these sections, readers can Unearth Your Longingssections that point them to truth from Gods Word on which they can meditate.

But Sarah has family and ministry and a life to live in the city where she is. Sarah wants both. This wrestling with desires that seem incompatible for the time being has led her to write an amazing book, "Longing for Paris: One Womans Search for Joy, Beauty, and AdventureRight Where She Is." Im so glad I got to read it!
Sarah begins by telling readers about this wrestling and how it led her to try to find Paris right where she is. (She even started with a hunt for croissants!) In the chapters following her story, she discusses aspects of Paris that she has learned to find and enjoy anywhere. She writes about savoring life, enjoying beauty, and living all-out for Christ. She also writes about marriage, family, service, and adventure. She teaches readers to find the things they most long for right where they are in order to live lives full of purpose and delight.
Anyone who feels stuck or in need of inspiration will find value, motivation, and fun ideas in this book. I highly recommend it and thank Tyndale House Publishers for sending a review copy to me.
Kris D5 Stars Out Of 5What are you longing for?August 4, 2015Kris DQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book was written with such transparency into what a real mom and wife longs for. We all have dreams of going places and having amazing adventures. The reality is that money can get tight and we start longing for more. Sarah Mae has written this book that helps us think about how we can be content with the life we currently live. She encourages us to take life to the next level and bring "Paris" to us. A couple of quotes that I loved most include: "God cares about our dreams, because He cares about us." and "We can't always change our circumstances, but we can choose our perspective."

Sarah shows us a way to turn our everyday situations into joy and happiness. Each chapter she talks about her experiences and gives a bible story that will relate. At the end of each chapter is a paragraph called Unearthing your Longings, which contains questions for you to answer and go deeper into your soul for answers of what you are feeling. It also provides a bible verse or verses to reference and meditate on. The end of the chapter also contains a short paragraph called an Invitation to Paris, which allows you to use your imagination and go to a fun place, it teaches you a little exercise that you can use whenever you are feeling the pressure of life. It is all about finding your happiness and joy without spending money, leaving your home and realizing it is all about your happiness.
I would recommend this to women of all ages and for those that need a little quick read to get through that tough daily grind. I really like the references and the layout. Each chapter is easy to read with in 20-30 minutes and can be used as a daily devotional.

WordsmithAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5How to Really LiveJuly 24, 2015WordsmithAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I often struggle with reconciling the hopes and dreams I have with the realities of the life I am currently living. With six kids in and out of the house, it is difficult to find the quiet that I crave. It's hard to find time to do the things I enjoy and dream of doing for a living, not just as a hobby. And when the school semester is in progress, it's difficult to even find the time for sleep!
Sarah Mae's book Longing for Paris talks about her attempts to reconcile her dreams with her reality. She gives ideas for how to live right where you are and how to bring the beauty and joy of your dreams into your home and family. Your dreams may be different from hers (mine are!), but the ways she incorporates them into her life is a great source of ideas for how you can incorporate yours.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
