This was another great book by Lynn Austin. For those of us born after the war this book gives us a much better understanding of what people really faced. Right from the first chapter we connect with the main characters and feel their pain and frustration when hopes and plans are dashed. We too ask where is God when we are faced with unanswered prayer and when we lose hope. As in real life God is at work behind the scenes and he surrounds us with people to help us through our darkest hours. This book is well written and as always Lynn focuses on the message of the gospel. I highly recommend this book!

I have loved reading Lynn's books for some time. The way she brings history alive in her stories is what draws me in. This story takes place during WW II and shows the lives of a young soldier, his childhood friend and a Jewish girl and how what is taking place around them, changes them. The struggles of what we now know as PTSD in the life of Jimmy is delt with such compassion. The love from his family and friend Peggy, show him that God is still with him and always has been. The life changes that Gisele went through before the war and endured during, caused her to want to help others. The weaving of all of their stories shows how a strong faith, love from others do bring healing. The road may seem long and hard at times, but there is hope. Just keep, keeping on. Healing does come. Home is found.

Before reading Lynn Austin's new book, Long Way Home, I already prepared my heart on what will be told. She wrote the characters so well that when you are reading about their situation, even though they are fictitious, I caught myself praying for them. Ha ha. Praying that they will have that happy ending.

Looking forward for more of Lynn Austin's works.

This is unique story exploring the aftermath of WW2 on friends and family coping with helping their loved ones through the trauma they witnessed. I thought it was very well done, coming at it from different points of view, with different characters. I say unique in that often WW2 books are focused on a romance, or they are targeting the atrocities of the war, which this one touches on, but is neither of those things.

It was not one that I would say to pick up to read to feel uplifted in the sense that it would be light reading, but pick it up to be encouraged at the tenacity and bravery that many went through to survive and help others. The treatment of PTSD and trauma related injuries after the war is clearly portrayed in this novel, where you keenly feel it.

I obtained this book from the publisher. All opinions contained herein are my own.

I have read many of Lynn Austin's books & I must say, this one really puts the story of the people in the WWII era in to perspective. She details what the Jewish people went through in their journey with the Nazi's, the after affects of the people who served in the war, & how through courage & determination, they found a way to survive. I was happy to see that she covered PTSD in a way to we could understand how what these people went through, how they were treated at the time & how with the love of family & friends, they went on to get better. All of the characters were strong individuals but to see how a group of them can come together to help one another is just the way you wish our world would be now. I can't wait to see what story Lynn will write next. She is amazing on details, characters & showing God's love through it all, even when you question your faith.
