Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bears books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

The Berenstain Bears Get Ready for Christmas by the series' creator Jan Berenstain and her artist son Mike Berenstain is an exploratory children's Christmas book. The story finds the three Bear children looking all over their house for the various pieces and parts of the family's large nativity scene. On each page young readers can open closet doors, look behind flower vases, search behind family photos, and even move the mantel clock in helping the Bear children find the angels, animals, Wise Men, Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.

As with all the books that have come from this series since 1962, the artwork is colorful, yet simplistic enough for children to relate to and enjoy. The first page presents Luke 2:7, "She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them." This is a Christmas story, but it is also a story of a family that enjoys doing projects together and showing love for the Lord and for each other. – Dr. Dennis E.
