Tell us a little about yourself. Joe received his undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee, his Masters degree at Murray State University and his Doctoral degree from the University of Memphis. Joe has served on the faculty at several prestigious institutions and was a University Dean for over 10 years.
Today, Dr. Pettigrew is a leading authority on leadership and management issues affecting the worlds senior executives. He is a highly distinguished executive coach, professional speaker, author, and founder of Leaderpoint Consulting Group, an international leadership-coaching firm with offices in Memphis, Dallas and Houston. Joes experiences represent 25 years of exceptional hands-on senior leadership and management success. He is among a very elite group of individuals worldwide to hold a Doctorate in the field of Leadership. His consulting and speaking clients include more than half of Americas Fortune 500 Companies and many large not-for-profit organizations such as United Way, Habit for Humanity and the American Red Cross. He has worked with international leaders, and organizations as diverse as the National Basketball Association and the National Football League. His daily experience in the education and corporate world, keeps him up to date with the current trends and issues facing todays senior executives.
Joe has participated and taught at many of the countrys leading training schools for leaders. A prominent, sought-after speaker, and business consultant, Dr. Pettigrew is universally characterized by his colleagues, and clients as an insightful, powerful, and compassionate teacher. What was your motivation behind this project? The book, divided into four sectionsMarriage, Children, Work, and Faithcalls upon the experiences celebrity sports figures such as Tony Dungy, Lee Corso, Chris Mortensen, Bobby Bowden, and more. Living Life in the Zone helps men to have a real faith dialog, even when much of today's current church literature and methodology doesn't appeal to them.
Admittedly, we are fellow strugglers in this life. However, we have found that Gods Word taken in its proper context speaks to every core issue a man can face. And when God speaks, He doesnt stutter, writes Rote and Pettigrew. In addition, we recognize that many men tend to compartmentalize their livesso we have chosen to focus on what our research has told us are the most stressful compartmentsfaith, fatherhood, marriage, work, and friendships.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? We hope men will see that they are living in one of the most stressful times in our country's history. They are being pulled in every direction. They want to be a great husband, father, employee and disciple. Men will hear stories from many of the most successful sports and business men in the world about how they deal with these issues and still keep their eyes focused on Jesus.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The book was a year long daily project with my friend Kyle Rote, Jr. While we both have grown children, we have a special place in our heart for young men trying to balance work, marriage, fatherhood and their faith. As we listened to the many stories that we wrote about, we often stooped and prayed that this book would speak to men the way the stories spoke to us.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Our main inspiration is Jesus Christ. As far as earthly sources of inspiration, Tony Dungy, John Wooden,Chris Mortensen, Gene Stallings and Larry Payton were key influences.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: We believe this is an important read for men battling to be a super dad, super husband, super breadwinner and follower of Christ. We support the local church and only desire to help get more men in or back in the local church
