Academy2525 Stars Out Of 5A Fantastic Resource!January 24, 2020Academy252Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book is super informative and practical. The book is written by real medical and psychology professionals who deal with clients who suffer with chronic pain on a regular basis. It does not read like a medical textbook, though. It is written for the layperson so it is easy to understand.
The format for this book begins with nine chapters on understanding pain the different types and why they occur. This section also addresses causes for and ways people deal with each type of pain.
The second section deals with tools that are used to manage pain and the importance of choosing the right solution for you. They address both medical, psychological and physical solutions to work through what is causing the pain in your body. They suggest specific changes you can make today that can help you to experience relief and solutions that can keep you moving forward for long term relief and possibly healing.
The third section brings everything into summary and is filled with encouragement and wisdom as you seek out solutions. The book is written from a spiritual perspective and I like how they evaluate worldly solutions from a Christian perspective and give sound advice on creating a personal plan that is right for you.
This is such a practical book and as a person who suffers from chronic pain I was excited to see this book being published through a Christian publishing company. Suffering plays a very different role in the life of a Christian and I love how the authors share the biblical aspects of suffering and trusting God through such trials.
Missy5 Stars Out Of 5Great holistic overview of painNovember 15, 2019MissyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I enjoyed this book. As a counseling student, I can appreciate a holistic approach to treating a person, especially those who battle with chronic pain, trauma or any addictions disorder. The authors went through common pain diagnoses (not an exhaustive list as that would be an entire book itself!) which was helpful. This book also provides a toolbox for pain management that is encouraging. This book was also enlightening in several different areas such as engaging in relationships, changing thoughts, the importance of exercise and additional resources.
Whether someone is living in pain themselves or knows someone who is, this book is a great overview of education related to the topic and ways to begin combatting pain. I would recommend this book.

Mintle, PHDNovember 3, 2019debsMaineAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5his book is about dealing with your pain without having to take medication to get through the days. It is a book that has many solutions to today's common problems dealing with pain, depression, self-worth and so much more. The chapters deal with issues in an easy to understand reading. Each chapter will start with a quote, some from famous people as Michael J. Fox and Namoi Judd, along with a story then detail solutions and stages of what you are feeling.
I would recommend this book to anyone that is dealing with some sort of pain, either drug addiction, depression, back pain and much more.... this can be read by the person that is having the symptoms or the one that is a caregiver, friend or family. If you want a book with lots of information this is the book for you. Just note: a lot of information so don't think this is a book you can just pick up and read you will need to take time and take it all in, you might even have to read a few times to get it all in.

Around 250 pages, the book covers many topics on the subject, including:
- The toll that pain takes on our body and well-being.
- Most common types of pain.
- The opioid epidemic.
- Traditional approaches to pain management.
- How changing your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, relationships, stress, and lifestyle can change your pain.
- Importance of exercise.
- What to do when you need more help.
- Having hope in your pain.
The title is well-written and provides excellent counsel and suggestions for a problem many people face. The author writes respectfully and is certainly sensitive to the problem. Excellent read for anyone dealing with physical pain or has someone in their lives who is dealing with pain.
Good read and recommended. I was given a copy by Baker Books in exchange for a fair review and appreciate the opportunity.
