Love Lives Here is the most poignantly beautiful book that I've read in some time. My heart was captured from the foreword by Maria's husband Bob Goff. His words echo what every woman wants to hear about themselves from their man.
Each chapter that follows stands alone yet a theme of love and grace winds through the entire book. While reading through Maria's thoughts about past experiences I found pieces of my own story woven in. I've had many of the same experiences and I'm sure that you have too. Some of the stories made me laugh and others made me weep. But regardless of the emotion that was brought forth the leading hand of God was present.
The theme of the book is obviously love. That love is manifested in the lives of the Goff family. The way that they love each other and others will stick with me for some time. They leave no doubt about where their ability to love comes from. It is a gift from God. As you read through the book it is abundantly clear that this gift is readily available to you and me.
I heartily recommend this book to everyone. Whether you are in a hard spot or not this book will speak to you. I think it would also make a wonderful gift for a friend that needs a little lift in their spirit.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
Maria's ability to share the most common stories of her life, while weaving in simple ways to love and be loved, is inspiring. I especially loved her chapter on Reverse Economy- "God made us different individually so we can be better together....In God's reverse economy, He makes our differences our strengths so long as He's the one we're all aiming to be like."
Just finished reading this book- it is amazing! Maria uses simple but profound stories and examples to both challenge and encourage her readers to bravely and boldly live out their faith. She shares that the secret to joy and contentment is to walk the unique life God has planned for you and your family. I have already started going back through, re-reading, studying, and praying about exactly how we can apply this to our family. Cannot wait to read it together as a family!
This book is simply beautiful. I enjoyed every word. Sweet Maria Goff shares her scrapbook full of snapshots - snapshots of marriage, parenting, hospitality, love, joy, pain, peace, laughter, tears, travel, rest, fear, neighbors - in such an endearing way, I just want to sit with her and listen to her tell me more stories. Her love for Jesus, for her family, for people, and for life comes through every word, and reading each of those words made me want to love better. This will be one I keep on my shelf even as Im purging most everything from my home so I can reread it.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This is my honest review.
I don't think I've thought much about what "welcome" really means. Sweet Maria Goff embodies the notion, and every word in this book is proof. "Love Lives Here" is an invitation into relationship and community. It is a loving description of how the Goffs intentionally create safe spaces, warmth, and whimsy -- even in the most trying and painful of circumstances.
"Love Lives Here" works as both memoir and guidebook. The author models that intentionality by weaving memory with lessons learned. She explains her way forward. She doesn't simply arrive at conclusions, she shows her work.
While I have a printed copy of the book, I also chose to purchase the audio version to hear Maria tell her own story in her own voice. I am so glad that I did. Her speaks my voice is as warm and tender as the words she writes.
Note: I received an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
