The Adventure Guide is designed to help parents, teachers, and students discover and analyze biblical themes and literature concepts while reading Little Pilgrim's Progress. Partnering with the Adventure Guide will make reading this incredible allegory an unforgettable event for your child or student.
The guide breaks the novel down into 2 parts, Christian's journey and Christiana's journey. Each journey is separated into four reading sections. These reading sections include vocabulary, questions, allegorical interpretations, literature elements, Bible application, character charts, and character matching.
A Parent/Teacher Helps section is also included, offering detailed suggestions regarding story charts, a mapping bulletin board that can also be used as a game, and several art and literature extensions.
Oftentimes literature activities become busy work that detracts from the story. But the Adventure Guide activities and story extensions are meaningful and encourage further examination of story characters, themes, and symbolism. A brief biography of John Bunyan is also included to aide in discussion about the original classic, Pilgrim's Progress.

My children and I have read it together every year since my oldest was 5. It's an amazing read and our copy is pretty worn out.
But instead we received Little Pilgrims Progress Adventure Guide. This time as we read Little Pilgrims Progress, we went through the Adventure Guide, and while the few corresponding verses were helpful, looking up the definitions, answering the questions, and analyzing the literary techniques took the fun out of the story for my 3 children (ages 13, 9 and 5). Usually I just orally define unknown terms to my children, and we discuss as we go.
This would be great for someone teaching a class (as the author does) for English credit, but for our family we prefer casually reading and discussing.

But it has, and it's been improved with the addition of an Adventure Guide, written by homeschooling mom Deanna Conrad. Written especially for those in grades 4-6, families with children in other age groups can still benefit from the guide.
It's not just another fill-in-the-blanks workbook. The Little Pilgrim's Progress Adventure Guide provides engaging vocabulary, thought-provoking questions, allegorical concepts, literature elements, biblical applications, and character analysis in various formats.
