Today, I started packing my sons items and ran across this really neat book. "Little Critter, Little Blessings Collection by Mercer Mayer. I love all of the Little Critter books so I really enjoy that this book is a set of four books that are Christian based. I received a free copy of this book from booklookblogger.com for my honest review about a month ago. I read it to my youngest son and daughter and they loved it. I forgot about reviewing so now is a great time since its time to pack it up.

This book has four stories in it, You Go First, It's True!, Being Thankful, and We All Need Forgiveness. Each story has a great message.

You Go First, talks about how we should treat others and that God tells us in the Bible that we should treat others the way we want to be treated.

It's True!, is about telling the truth and how God says that the truth will set you free.

Being Thankful is about how we should praise God for his goodness.

We All Need Forgiveness, talks about how God forgives us and how we need to forgive one another.

If you enjoy Little Critter books I highly recommend this book. It is one of my favorite's.

Fans of Little Critters will love this collection of four stories in one book: You Go First, It's True, Being Thankful, and We All Need Forgiveness. This hardcover book will be sure to hold up to daily reading. These stories follow Little Critter as he learns valuable lessons that we all should apply to our own lives. It certainly would make the world a better place. We naturally gravitatetowards the "me, me, me" attitude. But what if we thought of others? How do partial truths affect those around us? It isn't quite a lie, right? Or is it... And constantly wanting more. But my friends have it, why can't I?

I remember reading Little Critter when I was a kid. Has it really be around for that many years? I mean...for a short amount of years? :) Little Critter books are full of important lessons and lots of love. This collection would be great for toddlers or young readers. There are some challenging words in there so it would be a good book to read together and help expand their vocabulary. I recommend adding this book to your home library for nighttime readings as well as for practice for those learning to read. Not only will it help on their reading skills, but it was also open their minds to the possibility thatthinking of others over themselves might actually be a good thing. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Some stories, some characters are so familiar you cannot wait to introduce them to your children. In our home, Little Critter is just such a character. I have so many memories of snuggling up with these books as a child it just made sense to share them with my boys. Sadly, our oldest is getting to the stage where he wants a little more story development, which is why I loved the idea of the Little Blessing Collection.

These stories are filled with the same characters I love but still have a story that keeps my oldest engaged and learning solid lessons.

Overall, I was impressed with this collection. The characters brought about enough nostalgia for this Mama while still appearing fresh and relatable enough for my children. The stories varied in their topics covering the importance of telling the truth, thankfulness, letting others go first, and forgiveness.

I was impressed at how Mayer's laying out of Little Critter's dilemmas naturally prompted my kiddo to ask questions and think through how he would feel in similar situations. I love a book that inspires good dialogue and these stories certainly delivered on that front.

I also felt that the variety of topics still flowed well with one another. Thankfulness could easily be linked to letting others go first. Telling the truth tied to thankfulness. This allowed us to really build onto topics and the concepts of building a strong foundation with our kids, rather than bouncing around through unrelated issues.

My only downfall was the story on forgiveness. While the other stories were age appropriate, well-rounded stories, the forgiveness story is very self-centered with no mention of making amends (despite the story allowing for such a conversation), a limited talking about reconciliation (which felt minimized), and no broaching of the scope of issues which may need forgiveness and the importance of acknowledging the damage. My little guy was so confused by this story and was really concerned that "forgiveness" was just a free pass to getting away with things.

Little Critter Little Blessings Collection, by Mercer Mayer, contains four stories to help teach children how to treat others, how to be thankful for what they have, to not lie and to forgive others and ask for forgiveness.

You Go First: Little Critter always wants to be first. His teacher explains to him that having fun isn't about being first, it's about enjoying time with others. She tells the class that the God wants us to treat others as we want to be treated.

It's True!: Little Critter has a tendency to not tell the complete truth. He leads his classmates to believe his grandfather has a real bi-plane and they all want to ride in it. Not knowing how to tell them it is just a model plane, he decides to run away. His grandfather picks him up and teaches him that God tells us the truth will set you free. If you are not truthful, you will not be happy.

Being Thankful: Little Critter is always wanting what he does not have. His father tries to tell him others would be happy with what he has. After spending the night at his Grandparents, his grandfather gives him a thankful rock to carry him his pocket to help remind him to praise God for all he has.

We All Need Forgiveness: Little Critter makes mistakes and hopes others will forgive him, but he is not forgiving to others. His friends get mad at him and his mother explains to him everyone needs to forgive each other, just as God forgives us.

This book is such a great book to help teach younger children basic life lessons about getting along with others and being thankful. Little Critter has been a long time favorite. The stories are easy to read and fun for little ones. These stories are written for preschoolers through third grade. The pictures are cute and colorful with lots of details. This is a hard covered book with regular pages, so could be damaged by the very young child. I think this book would be enjoyed by all little ones and their parents, especially the parents that grew up with Little Critter.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher, Tommy Nelson, through Book Look Bloggers. This is my honest review.
