Publisher's Description

Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for "heart drops," hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.

Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:

• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.

• Explains the role of good works for followers of Christ. They aren’t our ticket to heaven but they are our marching orders on earth.

• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.

• Provides inspiration for blessing the "necessary people" in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.

As we scatter love, we create a safe space where we can openly share the gospel. We get to see lives changed right before our eyes. Most importantly, Listen, Love, Repeat will enable you to live a life that is full of kind deeds, not to selfishly shout, "Hey! Look at me!" but to humbly implore, "Will you look at Him?"

Editorial Reviews

Listen, Love, Repeat is utterly refreshing. It’s a call to step out of our self-obsessed culture and notice the people around us, to really pay attention and look for ways to love and honor each other. What a timely reminder that while we can’t do everything for the people we encounter in the day-to-day, we can do something---and every little something matters. Thank you, Karen, for a book that’s practical, encouraging, and grounded in Truth. We will all be better for reading it.
Karen Ehman’s blog was one of the first I ever read, and she’s never stopped being a mentor to me. Her words here speak my heart language---and echo the heart of God. Live these words. Repeat. Have a profoundly beautiful life right where you are.
Listen, Love, Repeat is more than a book. It is an inspired call to action for Christians to do what Jesus calls us to do: love people. By the end of the first chapter, I was already looking for ways to scatter kindness. This book is more than a recitation of why our good deeds matter. It is a practical guidebook on how to be like Jesus in a world that desperately needs more kindness.
Packed with heartfelt truths and practical ideas, Karen Ehman hits the nail on the head with her newest book, Listen, Love, Repeat! Both challenging and inspiring, it is a message we desperately need in our world today: to love others. A must read!
The woman who wrote this book is the same woman who threw my bridal shower, loves me in ways I don’t deserve, believes in me in ways I don’t believe in myself, and who gives gifts better than anyone I know. Listen, Love, Repeat isn’t merely a catchy title, it’s the way Karen Ehman lives. She hasn’t stopped this cycle ever since I’ve met her. Now, it’s your turn to start.
Karen Ehman is God’s real deal---her heartfelt words a gift. When I began to tear up by page fifteen, I knew my heart was in for a total transformation! Listen, Love, Repeat quite possibly could be the key to getting unstuck from feeling hopelessly dry, scarily empty, and completely unfulfilled. Thank you, Karen, for being the friend we need to encourage us to tune our ears---in the midst of our culture’s narcissism---to hear God’s heart and scatter his loved to the world.
Listen, Love, Repeat is written by the woman I like to call my “other mother.” I spend lots of time at her house. She is never too busy to listen to my struggles, feed me good food, and let me borrow her phone charger. Best of all, she’s always pushing me to do my best and to strengthen my walk with the Lord. This book will help you to love like Jesus did and to never let others around you go unnoticed---even if that person is a teenage boy with a big appetite and dead cell phone who just needs someone to listen and care.
With all the criticism and combativeness we witness online and in person, Listen, Love, Repeat is a breath of fresh air. . . . Faith-filled inspiration and practical ideas for living alert, taking notice of others, and scattering God’s kindness in an often negative world.
In Listen, Love, Repeat Karen Ehman again strikes gold, showing us how to value others above ourselves and to do so with genuine compassion. A teacher at heart, Karen skillfully weaves together biblical examples, hard-earned wisdom, and real-life stories to create a resource our world desperately needs.
In Listen, Love Repeat Karen reminds us the purpose of doing good isn’t about being known as a pretty good person but about pointing people to the breathtaking goodness of God. You won’t feel like you’re being asked to add one more thing to your already full plate. Instead, you’ll discover how small sacrifices can have a significant impact on the lives of others. And how you can do it all for the glory of the One who made the greatest sacrifice of all.
Listen, Love, Repeat was an answer to prayer! It’s so easy to live focused on our own needs, but as I asked the Lord to show me ways to better love those around me, Karen’s words inspired and equipped me to live with a heart of hospitality. This book is full of wonderful ways to live a life that reaches out and welcomes others in.
If you desire to bless to others but feel like your calendar is too busy, this book is for you! Listen, Love, Repeat is exactly the inspiration I need to remind me that it doesn’t always take a lot of time to be a blessing. Karen Ehman shows us that when we pay attention and listen to the people around us, God reveals many simple ways we can love them well. Her biblical insight, practical ideas, and creative tips will help you live the life of love you long for.
With uncommon wit and wisdom, Karen Ehman shows us how to listen between the lines in everyday conversations and to love with creativity! Each chapter inspired me to live more alert and become more aware of how I can shift my focus from what people have to what they really need!
Human connection is seemingly more accessible than ever, but still our hearts often feel miles away from the human being living even right next door. In Listen, Love, Repeat Karen Ehman digs into how meaningful connection begins by tuning our ears toward the hearts of those around us. When we do, life becomes richer and love becomes deeper. This is a practical and encouraging manual to forming and deepening relationships all around you.
Listen, Love, Repeat is a go-to manual on loving others like Jesus did. Karen’s heartfelt stories, biblical examples, and doable ideas will empower you to live alert––being on the lookout for anyone who needs a healthy dose of encouragement wrapped in a blanket of grace. I can’t wait to implement some of the suggestions!

I was given an advanced reading copy of Listen, Love, Repeat by Karen Ehman for an honest review of the book.

This is a wonderful book written with much love and insight. Our world needs this kind of book, especially right now. The subtitle of the book says it all Other-centered living in a self-centered world. It seems that today people are more concerned about getting their voice heard than listening to others. They want to make sure they get what they want and have no concern for what anyone else may want or need.

This book sets out to change that. It prompts you to look at others differently; not to see them as those that get in the way of what you want but as an opportunity to give back; to lend a helping hand; to show love and kindness. What makes Karens insights particularly helpful is that she doesnt just tell you to get over yourself and start being nicer to others. There are real, practical ideas in the book. She addresses different types of people that you may come across and fun easy ways to sprinkle kindness as she puts it. She even helps to uncover methods you can use to bestow kindness on those around you that may be hard to love like the grumpy neighbor or the unruly kid. Everyone can use some kindness shown their way, the hard to love most of all.

I really enjoyed the book, the lessons, the personal stories and the ideas! I hope to encourage my family to spread kindness now and throughout the new year. If you are tired of all the negativity and anger going around in the world today, get this book and follow the suggestions to bring more love and kindness to those around you. Maybe it will start a movement!

This book will make you STOP to Listen, Love, Repeat. The personal stories that Karen shares not only make her relatable but the purpose of the book relatable. You will find yourself scattering kindness and maybe even stepping outside of your comfort zone to do so. I not only tuned in more to my family members, but to other people that crossed my path throughout the day. The movement that came out of this book, #5dollardash, will warm your heart. This is a quick and easy read. There may be a little bit of repetition throughout chapters, but hey, that's how we talk. I bought a couple of copies to share with friends and family. My hope is that they pass it along to their family & friends. Disclaimer: I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is an excellent book with practical ways to live an upside down life like Jesus. As Christians, our daily goal is to become more like Jesus through our words and deeds. Listen Love Repeat has truly challenged me to live alert and respond when I hear a "heartdrop" or see a need. Since reading this book, I asked my pastor for permission to use Listen Love Repeat for our next women's group Bible study and I'm happy to say we start in January!!!

This may be the best book yet that I have read about living a life loving others. The insights are great and the examples inspiring. If there is one book I'd recommend to practically learn about a selfless life, this is it.

Ehman reminds us that we live in a self saturated society. Living as a person who thinks of others first will take effort on our part. But that effort will be much easier after reading this book. Ehman gives practical suggestions to bless others. She pays particular attention to the physical and emotional needs of others.

People around us are longing to be loves, Ehman writes. She reminds us we need to be proactive in our faith, living alert and opening our lives to sacrificial living. She draws from examples in the Bible, from her own life, and from the lives of others. She has a great section on what to say and not say when others are hurting. She includes 39 passages from the New Testament that tell how, and how not, to treat other people. She has excellent suggestions for interacting with those who are grieving. She inspires us to use our homes and our stuff to show our love for others.

And practical Ehman is. She is down to earth in her suggestions. Having others over? Forget the fancy recipes. Have a baked potato bar or build your own burger dinner. Better lots of meat loaf and mashed potatoes than a fancy new dish you saw on social media having ingredients no one recognizes. Her suggestions for touching the heart of the cantankerous are worth noting. I love the idea of giving unbirthday gifts and scattering kindness.

I highly recommend this book to those ready to live a selfless life. You will find great encouragement and very practical suggestions.

Food for thought: Sometimes the best strategy is to keep your mouth shut and your hands open. (181) And, The only way to go about loving the difficult is to expect nothing in return. (182)

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Icon Media. My comments are an independent and honest review.
