Rich5 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful resourceDecember 10, 2019RichQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This is a rare combination of a moving personal story and immensely practical and encouraging resources. I was most glad to have read it and would recommend it not only to caregivers and people whose loved ones are suffering from Alzheimer's and other similar diseases, but to everyone, because all of us at one time or another are either such a caregiver or love someone who is a caregiver, and Cynthia's book is full of wisdom, perspective, love and prayers that are valuable to all people. Thank you, Cynthia for writing this book!
MC5 Stars Out Of 5In the Lingering Light by Cynthia FantasiaNovember 23, 2019MCQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I finished In the Lingering Light many weeks ago, but I find that I am still thinking about it often. Cynthia speaks with honesty, courage, and love about the difficult journey of watching her beloved husband Bob battle with Alzheimer's and caring for him through it, from the beginning stages all the way to the end. She shares her struggles as the caretaker and offers uplifting hope and practical tips on how to stay sane, while preserving the dignity of your loved one. Cynthia's story makes me live with greater gratitude for the people and memories that are being formed now while we still have them. Thank you, Cynthia.
Jamie5 Stars Out Of 5A must readJuly 20, 2019JamieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5For anyone who has a loved one that's been diagnosed with Alzheimer's this is a must read.
This book provides both a resource and a resting place for those caregivers who feel like they've been tossed into the deep end and are being pulled under by the weight of this disease.
Offering help for the present and hope for the future, Cynthia Fantasia walks you through her own personal journey of caring for her husband Bob, and shares both the heartache and hope she's experienced along the way.
I believe this book will serve as an instrument of God's mercy and grace for those who need to be reminded of His love and I also believe it will provide insight on how we as a community need to come alongside these weary faithful ones.
Thank you Cynthia for being brave enough to share your story, for leading us to the One who can restore and redeem and for reminding us that there are treasures in the darkest places.
Maggie5 Stars Out Of 5Just the right gift resource for anyone caring for a loved one with Alzheimer'sJuly 18, 2019MaggieQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I am always looking for practical, encouraging gifts to give to friends going through tough times. So grateful to find this new book that provides encouragement, help and hope for those caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's. (According to the Alzheimer's Association, over 16 million family members and friends provided care to people with Alzheimer's disease in 2018 alone.) The author shares her own story of caring for her husband following his diagnosis as well as those of other caregivers. There is eternal hope even in the darkness of this awful disease, and it can be found in the pages of "In the Lingering Light." Highly recommended.
Lucinda Secrest McDowell5 Stars Out Of 5Full of Hope, Inspiration and Practical Help!July 18, 2019Lucinda Secrest McDowellQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Though we may wish there weren't a great need for this book, statistics say that some form of dementia will eventually touch many of our lives. So, I'm especially thankful to have a wise and compassionate guide as Dr. Cynthia Fantasia to lead the journey alongside loved ones who are In the Lingering Light. Handling a subject fraught with emotion, fear, and loss, Fantasia manages to bring both hope and practicality borne out of her own experiences as an Alzheimer caregiver to her husband of forty-eight years. Gifted as both an educator and pastor, Fantasia deftly weaves story, spiritual lessons, wise advice, and beautiful prayers into each chapter. "Bob was not alone, and neither was I. And God was present for each of us in just the way we needed." Of course I cried, but I also felt more empowered and better equipped to know how to respond and remember for those who no longer can. Be sure to buy at least two copies of In the Lingering Light., as there will be someone you need to gift with this important message.
