We chose this for our new "Bible Book Club". First everyone was so impressed by the beautiful book itself. Each story gives us hope for all. The characters came to life and showed how God can use each of us - broken, used, faithful but human - for His wonderful purpose. Through these very human women, our Savior was born. I can't think of a soul this book won't touch. Our group was excited to see each ending. Beautifully written.

My wife has read and recommended these books. Now we are buying these books to give away. She even persuaded me to buy one to read for myself.

The background for these stories is basic Bible stories we have grown up with. The Bible provides us with the right amount of details to tell the basic doctrinal truths of the stories. Often the nuances of life or the motivations of the characters are missing. We can study the Bible stories for the doctrinal truth. It is challenging to apply those truths to our very different outward situations.

Francine opens the door for the reader to walk in the shoes of each of the characters using her biblical knowledge and her creative authors perspective of character and place and motivation. Historical Biblical fiction is never written to be viewed as fact. We should read it as fictional character studies of human behavior from stories we know and love. This does not add to the Bible story. It removes my questions.Historical fiction gives us insights into a time and a culture unfamiliar to us.

I don't usually feel the need to buy special additions, especially if they're books I've already read/owned. But THIS. This was so beautiful (and frankly, such a bargain) that I couldn't pass it up. One for me, a few for friends! :)
