Publisher's Description

In our Christian faith, we’re either drawing closer to God and to His purposes for our lives or drawing further away. Like an athlete in training, there can be no middle ground

- from the introduction

Steve Wisniewski spent thirteen seasons playing offensive guard for the Oakland Raiders. Considered one of the NFL’s "dirtiest players," Steve was aggressive and tenacious, proudly wearing the silver and black. But everything changed when his eyes were opened to the importance of following God’s call for his life.

As the "ugly duckling" of his family, Steve overcame incredible odds. He was transformed from a timid boy, whose family was shattered by divorce, into a committed husband and father. He was physically changed from being crippled by an automobile accident and became an All Pro football player. Once a mean competitor, he is now a minister of the Gospel. Steve didn’t let the odds define him; he defied the odds and started fulfilling his destiny!

In Hand on the Line, Steve transparently shares his powerful story that will encourage you on the journey to becoming a Godly man. If God could heal Steve’s past, transform his present, and direct his future, the same God can accomplish amazing things through you!

Hand On The Line - Challenging Men To Follow God's Call by Steve Wisniewski is a very good book. The author engages the reader with stories of his childhood and time spent in the NFL and uses them to illustrate important aspects of your walk with God. He shares very practical truths in an effort to "challenge men to follow God's call". But don't let the title deter you from reading this book if you are a woman as women can definitely benefit from this book, too. This book can be used as a devotional since it is written in chapter form with several sub-points in each chapter. There are also questions at the end that encourage the reader to think about what they've read or for group discussion. I give this book 4 stars.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher and The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

"Hand on the Line, Challenging Men to Follow God's Call" by author Steve Wisniewski is a 368 page paperback book published by Destiny Images. At first glance this cover looks like a sports book. It shows a football scene. That's because author Wisniewski is a former All-Pro offensive guard with the Oakland Raiders. He had a 13-year professional career and won many accolades. He also was considered one of the NFLs dirtiest players" because he was aggressive. Now, however he is a licensed minister.

In this Men's Christian Living book, Wisniewski encourages men but women would enjoy it also. The message is universal. He candidly explains how he did not listen to God's guidance at first. Using stories from his past and sports he tells readers they need to listen to God's direction and be ready to follow Him. No more sitting on the sidelines and watching, but get in the game, put your hand on the line and go for it. This inspiring book is about how God works in our lives, how we can find contentment and what it is, how to be a good father, how to hear from God, how to bless others and speak blessings over them, just to name a few. In Chapter 1, he addresses an issue I have heard many times Does God care who wins a football game? Is anything really too big or too small to bring to Him?. It is packed full of thought provoking words from this author. At the end of each chapter there are questions to aid in continuing growth. Author Wisniewski closes the book with a prayer he wrote. He has done a wonderful job with this book. The writing style is easy to read and flows effortlessly. It is apparent the author loves God and gives Him the glory.

I would recommend this book for anyone looking to deepen their relationship with God. Men especially sports and football fans will enjoy it and glean from its well written messages. Don't discount this for women either although it is clearly geared toward men. It would make a great men's study group book. I rated it a 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest review.

I am currently reading Hand on the Line, Challenging Men to Follow Gods Call by Steve Wisniewski. I was just enough of a football fan in my early years to relate to Mr. Wisniewskis personal anecdotes and analogies. The book is well written and full of spiritual nuggets. As I am reading, I feel a need to have post-its and a high-lighter nearby. I will not only share this book with the men in my life, but I will it keep on my shelf and return to it time and again.

Challenging Men to Follow Gods Call is the subtitle of Hand On the Line by Steve Wisniewski, but I believe the challenges within the pages of this book can be for women, too. Mr. Wisniewski is an 8-time NFL Pro Bowl player and a former offensive lineman for the Oakland Raiders NFL team. Although many analogies in the book are sport-related, particularly football-related, most people can follow and easily understand the stories and how they translate to Christian life. The comparisons are excellent and the logic is sound. Most of Chapter 1 was the retelling of part of Mr. Wisniewskis final pro-football game. Although I didnt understand every aspect of the football game, it was a very absorbing story, it was well-told, and it especially came to life when Mr. Wisniewski related it to Christian life. My small amount of football knowledge did not hinder me from comprehending the message. As an offensive lineman, I wouldplace my hand on the lineWhen my hand is placed on the line of scrimmage, there was no turning backIm all in and fully invested for that play. (60) The comparison is to your walk with God. Are you fully committed?

I selected this book with my teenage son in mind, thinking he might want to read it after I did. I hadnt even completed a fourth of the book before deciding I would love for my husband and both of my teenage sons to read it. The book challenges all Christians to really contemplate their walk with God and how sincere they are about it, to consider their legacy and how the choices they are making will affect their families, to prepare for whatever calling God has for their lives. Many chapters are titled with football terms, such as Chapter 8: Beating the Blitz and Chapter 9: Blindside Help, but the true themes of those chapters are areas on which Christians need to focus, such as Chapter 8: Resistance and Chapter 9: Purity. Other areas of study include Discipline, Prayer, and Family. Read this book slowly, ponder its truths, evaluate your life. I highly, highly recommend this book.

Hand on the Line Challenging Men to Follow Gods Call is Steve Wisniewskis personal testimony of pursuing God with reckless abandon.

The book is packed with powerful analogies comparing the disciplines required for success in sports arena with those comparable spiritual disciplines and the cost of discipleship after becoming a follower of Jesus. He also discusses the similarity of camaraderie and the sense of community among team members and the common sense of brotherhood, unity, and shared devotion among Christian brothers who experience a mutual faith in Christ.

I especially like the Chalk Talks feature at the end of each chapter in which Steve asks the reader to consider pointed questions regarding handling routine matters like stress, disappointment, or failures. These questions follow the progression of Steves own faith journey with more probing questions of trust, commitment, finding Gods will, and an honest appraisal of personal spiritual progress, counting the cost of obedience, and investing your life in Gods service. These questions become an excellent resource tool and can easily be adapted for mentoring, discipleship building, or for mens Bible study groups.

Wisniewski is an advocate for a strong emphasis on the mission of evangelism as evidenced with a bold natural overflowing witness. The book is well written, deeply spiritual packed with stories and truths and insight into football and faith with practical personal life applications for men of every age and faith. Steve is open, genuine, sincere, and exemplary in his Christian walk.

Hand on the Line Challenging Men to Follow Gods Call is a book I plan to recommend to my sons, my brothers, and my friends. It is a powerful testimony of finding and following Gods destiny, unique purpose, and life calling.
