Colombia has been known as a land of violence - Colombian people have reacted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ by cursing the messengers, beating them, kidnapping them, killing them and burning down their houses. But from those burnings have shot out sparks and flames and laser beams of light, as the Gospel has continued to shine forth in the midst of darkness. God has delivered people from burning houses. God has healed the ones who cursed. God has even rescued kidnappers. Read fourteen true stories of the Light of the World shining in the land of Colombia, South America.
Anna LeonardAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5A Powerful Reminder of How Great Our God IsJanuary 28, 2015Anna LeonardAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleThis book is a great reminder of how great the God we serve is. The stories in this book truly make us see that He is far more powerful and more real than our weak selves can realize at times. My heart beat fast and my eyes filled with tears as I read the stories of how our God moves in our favor to reach us at all costs. It brought me back to the simplicity, but most powerful awesomeness of God's good news in contrast to the cluttered world of tactics, strategies and deception in man made religion. I could barely put the book down, for it renewed and sparked the fire within my soul for serving the Lord of my salvation. It was beautiful to feel the stories resonate with my own experiences that took and take place in a different time and place from the book, but with the same love and power and liberation, proving how God is the same yesterday, today and forever. It was beautiful to see in the stories of this book how God relentlessly pursues us, even in our ignorance and disobedience. It is beautiful to read how He moves mountains within us and how He is not confined to a church building. It is beautiful to read and realize how He can move supernaturally in our lives today just like He did in the time of the book of Acts, with dreams, signs, and wonders that bring Him glory, bring us to Jesus and always, always point to the arms of the Father. Oh, I truly loved reading this book. And I am looking forward to reading the other ones in the series.
Edme5 Stars Out Of 5Highly recommendedDecember 18, 2014EdmeQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was my first Hidden Heroes book, and I can't wait to read the others! Wonderful account of the work the Lord has and is doing in Columbia. Great resource also for "missions slot" in any children's ministry set up. Highly recommended!
Rebekah5 Stars Out Of 5Fascinating and InspiringDecember 9, 2014RebekahQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5We loved this book just as we have loved each of the Hidden Heroes books! This book contains fascinating stories of how the Gospel has gone forth in Colombia in spite of much opposition. Like each of the Hidden Heroes, this book is a great read-aloud and is beautifully written in an easy to understand way. We enjoy reading a chapter together during our Bible time each day, and I enjoy them just as much as my children do. The thing that excites me the most is seeing our children getting excited about what God is doing around the world, and I believe these books inspire them and plant that seed of desire to be a part of God's work. Thank you, Rebecca Davis, for bringing these stories to us!
Nicki5 Stars Out Of 55 Stars for Lights in a Dark Place!December 3, 2014NickiQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Our family loved Lights in a Dark Place during read-aloud time! It was uplifting and encouraging to hear many ways God is moving in the deepest, most remote parts of Colombia because people decided to pray. All 4 of my children became attached to the main missionary character in the book, they looked forward to the beautifully drawn illustrations, and each one eagerly anticipated the next chapter. This book was also a helpful addition to our homeschool study on South America this year. I would recommend this book to anyone raising a mission-minded, Christ-serving family. We loved it!
