Series: Faithgirlz Glimmer Girls

Publisher's Description

Join twins Mia and Maddie and their sidekick little sister, Lulu, as they travel the country finding adventure, mystery, and sometimes mischief along the way. Together with their famous mother, singer Gloria Glimmer, and their slightly wacky nanny Miss Julia, the sisters learn lessons about being good friends, telling the truth, and a whole lot more.

In this fourth book in the Faithgirlz Glimmer Girls series, the Glimmer family is headed to the Big Apple—New York City! Gloria has been asked to perform a concert in Times Square and the whole family joins her. Miss Julia immediately starts planning a sightseeing trip for the sisters that will be better than all the rest, but plans never turn out exactly as they imagine when the Glimmer girls are involved. So what happens when sibling rivalry, random acts of kindness, and a little mystery all meet up at some of the most famous sights in New York City?

We got this book for our daughter for Christmas and she loved it! While it won't be winning any Newberry Honors, I was impressed with how the girls' Christian walks were woven into the story line instead of just thrown in to make the book "Christian" fiction. My daughter started keeping a reading list for this year and she referred to this series as the "Best Series Ever". We even picked up another book in the series (Miracle in Music City) at a used book store later that week. If you have an avid reader, the books won't take more than an afternoon to read - but it will be an afternoon they enjoy.

This book may be targeted for young girls, but I enjoyed the story too as someone in the grandmother age range. Part of the Glimmer Girls series, this novel can easily stand alone. Twins Maddie and Mia and their younger sister Lulu travel to New York with their mom, who is a singer, and their dad and nanny. Their adventures in the Big Apple highlight many of New York's famous places, but the touching story is what wins your heart. The girls struggle to get along and to trust and forgive--things anyone can identify with. The fictional account makes a fun way to learn valuable lessons and to "sightsee." I recommend it. I received the book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

My thoughts: First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own." That done, LIGHT UP NEW YORK is the fourth book in the Glimmer Girl series. The books are stand-alone, but if you like to read books in order, they are: London Art Chase, A Dolphin Wish, Miracle in Music City, and Light Up New York.

I really enjoyed reading this book and found it amazing how Ms. Grant is so excellent at characterization. Maddie is just like me, Mia is like my older sister, and Lulu is like my little sister. Just like us. :)

I loved the way they used the different personalities to figure things out and do things together. The book felt very very real, because I could imagine me and my sisters in the story.

There is a mystery in it, but it isn't a real scary one. It is a really cool book. I loved it. Highly recommended for tween girls.
