Explores the relationship between people and angels, through the eyes of the early church.
Heaven is closer than we realize. Its boundaries overlap our own, and angels move in and out of our porous present, this moment that seems to us so solid and concrete. If that reality seems dim to us now, it beamed for the early Christians. Through their writings, sermons, songs, and art, the ancient faithful confessed a powerful and vivid belief that angels help carry us on our journey to God.
Rooted in the Scripture and following this ancient understanding, Lifted by Angels reveals:
- the role that angels play in the lives of people and in Gods plan of salvation
- the different ranks and functions of angels
- how Satan and his demons fell from grace and plagued humans
- the functions of guardian angels and how God assigns them to fit our personal needs
- how guardian angels help us resist evil, temptation, and the devil
- the way angels join with us in our prayers, even adding their own to ours
- the service angels provide in worship
Featuring examples of angels in ancient icons and frescoes and supported by extensive research on the early church and its pastors, poets, theologians, and artists, Lifted by Angels answers universal curiosity about angels and the unseen world, leaving readers inspired and hopeful about the nearness of God.

Even if you disagree with some conclusions the author draws, a believer can still embrace the fact that God uses his angelic agents in accomplishing his kingdom and redemptive purposes for the both the church and the world in one way or another.

Many if not most of us would acknowledge an invisible spiritual realm, even the existence of angels. However, most of us also only have Hallmark Valentine's cards to inform our conceptions of those angels. Joel Miller's book Lifted by Angels is an exquisite expose of the world of angels. I admit I was nervous I would be muddling through a dry and academic treatise, a baseless but bubbly devotional, or worse, an unbiblical bit of fancy. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the concise, scripturally groundedââ¬âearly church writings are tied back to Scripture as much as possibleââ¬âand exciting exploration of our spiritual siblings. Each chapter is broken down into manageable bites, though the writing is intelligent enough not to leave the reader feeling spoon fed. A logical progression of topicsââ¬â from fallen angels to guardian angels to our final escortsââ¬âis as natural as appetizer to main dish to dessert. Much like Randy Alcorn was able to make reasonable assumptions about Heaven from sometimes scant Scriptural content, so does Joel Miller succeed at painting a picture of angelic beings which excites the believer and motivates him or her to a deeper relationship with Christ. After all, we have an angel alongside us lifting us up. That kind of supportive accountability urges us on in our faith and gives us yet another thing to look forward to at the end of our journey: not do we long to hear, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant," hopefully we'll also get something like a "high five" from our faithful and longsufferingââ¬âat least in my case!ââ¬âguardian angel.

I now have mixed reviews on the book.
My first complaint I have about the book is how it talks about Trinity but GOD, Jesus are two separate people. The bible clearly states that GOD's name is Jehovah and that he had a son born through the virgin Mary named Jesus Christ. In Acts chapter 7 and verses 55,56 stephen says that he saw Jesus standing at GOD's right hand. And the chapter Matthew talks about Jesus getting on his knees and praying to his father, if he is his father who is he praying too? And there are many more examples I could get into.
I did like how the author does get a few stories in the bible correct involving GOD and angels such as the chapter on Adam and Eve. He described it exactly as in the bible. But he messed up the story of Lot and his family. When the angel rescued Lot and his family, he told them not to look back, to look straight ahead, but his wife when fleeing, looked back and for her punishment turned into a pillar of salt, so she did not make it out alive. That happpened because she was not supposed to have a desire for things of the past. Another thing the author got wrong was how Jesus went into hell to fight with Satan after he died. Hell does not exist and we do not go there to be punished. When we die, we are sleeping, conscious of nothing which we can see by the scripture Ecc 5:9,10 which says the the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead, the are conscious of nothing at all.
The author did get the story of Daniel and the lion correct as well as the story of Abraham and Jacob and Mary and Joseph, and the story of Jesus fasting for 40 days and being tempted by Satan.
I was frustrated with the book because he said alot of things that were simply not true or correct of certain scriptures that many people take and misapply to make it sound to what they want. Also they way the book was written was hard to understand and you made you feel like you were stupid when going through the book, like you needed higher education to get it yet the bible is very easy to understand and even the lowestly people can understand it and learn the truth about GOD and be happy. I will probably throw this book out honestly and not share it with anyone.
