This book is intended to be a daily devotional book that takes the reader through an entire year. However, as I began to read it, I just simply treated it like a good, solid Christian living book instead of a "once-a-day" reader. This devotional book covered numerous topics that can affect the lives of not just Christians, but of all people world-wide. The morality issue is one that seems to have infiltrated our culture because there are two sides to the argument. One side argues that everything can be moral according to the individual while others argue that God set out a rule book, in the Bible, that offers up specific things concerning morality that people should follow. In this book, Stanley seems to encourage the second lifestyle in the way that this book represents Christian living. It is a book that is uplifting and reminds the reader that no matter what happens in the world around them, there is a greater, more powerful being that is in control of it all. This, in my opinion, is the true meaning of this book. Beyond the daily dedication that this book prescribes is the message that God still cares about His people and that if I, as a human being, will simply align myself with His will, then I can have a future that is truly worth living. This is the lasting gift that is presented in this text. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a daily devotional book to bring them closer to God.

Book Review By Michael Joe Harvell
I have always enjoyed the writing and teaching of Dr. Charles Stanley. I was honored to have the opportunity to review his latest book "I Lift Up My Soul: Devotions To Start Your Day With God!" Dr. Stanley has a way of communicating God's truth, so that it comes out in simple and applicable thoughts that can challenge and inspire us to live more obedient and surrendered lives. In this book, he provides us with 365 days worth of God's truth and offers us the opportunity to apply this truth to our daily living.
This book provides the reader with a Scripture reading, key verse and instructive commentary which are all referenced from Dr. Stanley's previous published works. I found it to be a very easy, inspiring and encouraging read. I think that it would be a great tool for helping a person to start and maintain a daily devotional time.
It begins it's first entry on January 1st, but you can read it as you would like. You may choose to read one day at a time, several days selections in one sitting or you may just thumb through it's pages looking for just the right title that moves you.
This great little devotional is packed full of bite size chunks of wisdom and insight. Each reading is inspirational, instructive and encouraging. It is a great way to get focused on what really matters and will motivate you to stay focused in the way that you live your life!
There are not a lot of personal stories in this book, but there is plenty of personal application. It will help you to take a little time everyday to think about things that you need to think about. Read daily, it really does have the potential to help you to lift up your soul!
I found this to be a simple, challenging and rewarding book. I am glad that I took the time to read it and I think you will be glad too! If you already have a morning devotional plan that you follow, this would also make for a great "right before bed" reading.
I highly recommend this book and challenge people to read it and even think about sharing it with others as a gift.

Unable to go to church, I turned to TV to ââ¬Ëgo to church.' I found Dr. Stanley's In Touch service. He has the kindest, gentlest voice for a pastor I've ever heard. But don't that fool you. He gives you down-to-earth life principles based on the Word of God. Though I differ with some of his theology, his messages clearly challenged me each Sunday.
Today, in his book, I Lift Up My Soul, you can ââ¬Ëhear' Dr. Stanley every day of the year. His devotionals are written in the same kind, gentle voice, and he packs them with Scripture. He starts out with a Scripture reading, which may or my not contain the Key Verse he expounds on, but if you read them closely together, they do relate. He ends with a guided prayer that takes you directly to the Father's heart, seeking Him and His assistance to live for Him in your life.
I love his matter-of-fact method of examples-word pictures-in his devotions, along with the Word of God to back them up. They are down-to-earth, relevant subjects. Some include: second chances, God's faithfulness, worship, prayer, storms of life, victory, suffering, faith, transforming thoughts, and much, much more.
Interestingly, he categorizes each devotional under four main headings that can help you work towards a closer, deeper relationship with the Lord.
* Pathways to His Presence
* Seeking His Face
* On Holy Ground
* Into His Presence
The cover of the book indicates a deep, lasting relationship, with roots running deep. It's a powerful image to encourage you to put your trust in God.
