MelissaSk, CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Overall, a good programNovember 15, 2011MelissaSk, CanadaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 4This is my first year homeschooling, and I chose this set to use with both my kindergartener and my second grader. I wanted a Bible curriculum that we could work on together, and that would be easily adaptable for both of them, which this is! My second grader would easily be able to use this independently, if that had been our goal. The directions are clear, and it is well set up for children to work through on their own.
My kids enjoy the activities and worksheets. Great colorful pages, well laid out with plenty of space for answers. I like that it includes some spelling, copywork and even grammar! They usually do more than one day's work at a setting because they just want to continue on to the next fun thing.
My children have enjoyed not only learning about Bible stories from the old and new testaments, but also the history of how the Bible came to be.
I personally don't always enjoy the writing style used in adapting the Bible stories and in the teaching sections. It can be a bit oversimplified, sometimes annoyingly repetitive. This could just be my preference however, and it doesn't seem to bother my kids at all.
My only real complaint about this curriculum is that it uses the NKJV of the Bible. My children find it difficult to use. I often just look up the needed passages in a version that is more familiar to them. However, this creates a problem when they need to fill in the blanks of a memory passage. It is not an insurmountable problem, but my preference would be for a more recent version of the Bible to be used. I will probably continue to use this course as my kids get older anyway, as it is so fun and encourages them to learn.
I am really pleased with the wide variety of areas they are learning about with this set!
