Publisher's Description

From the family that brought you The Lifegiving Home and The Lifegiving Table, discover how you can become a parent who gives your child a life worth living for Christ.
In today’s world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and even paralyzed by the constant flow of parenting advice. We’re flooded with so much practical information that we wonder if we’re choosing the right way. And we may be missing the one thing God really wants us to give to our children: His life. God doesn’t include a divine methodology for parenting in the Bible, but He does provide principles that can enable any faithful parent to bring His life into the life of their home.

In The Lifegiving Parent, respected authors and parents Clay and Sally Clarkson explore eight key principles—heartbeats of lifegiving parenting—to shed light on what it means to create a home where your children will experience the living God in your family. Now parents of four grown children—each with their own unique personality and gifts—Sally and Clay have learned (sometimes the hard way!) that the key to shaping a heart begins at home as you foster a deep and thoughtful God-infused relationship with each child. Filled with biblical insight and classic Clarkson stories, The Lifegiving Parent will equip you with the tools and wisdom you need to give your children much more than just a good Christian life. You’ll give them the life of Christ. (Don’t miss the companion piece, The Lifegiving Parent Experience!)

'One of my favorite authors, Sally Clarkson, along with her husband wrote another book that provides biblical truth and encouragement for us mama's and this one is for the dad's too!! I have read several of Sally's books and they have all been books that I return to again and again. She offers a lot of wisdom for parents to gain from, along with also sharing times of struggle and how they learned from it and handled it.

This is not another parenting book telling you how and what to do, I don't read those kinds of books. No, this is instead a book that encourages you along the way to help you bring your children to live for Christ, and that starts within our homes. God's truths are what we need, His wisdom as they stay the same, even in our changing world. We can't rely on the schools, churches, programs, or others to teach our children where their worth comes from or what to do. They found research that was done, that shows that the fundamentals of faith transmission and retention within families have not really changed...the 3,500-year old biblical model that still works for passing faith from one generations to the next is passed along in families, through parents. Our children need nurturing and God gave them us to provide this."Nurture is hands-on and hands-around parenting. It cannot be done with a book, video, or a new app. It doesn't happen by sending our children to Sunday school, Bible club, or camp. We cannot delegate nurture to another person or program. Only we parents can nurture our children....it's a matter of obedience, not preference." This is not easy parenting, this requires dying to self daily and taking the time to train and model to our children the right way to go. In turn, they also teach us. Sally says, lifegiving has been a two-way path. This isn't done by giving your children a Christian life, but giving them the life of Christ. This powerful remind, "We all have only "one life to give" for our children, so we need to make sure it's one that will indeed give them life."

The Clarkson's also addressed the cultural changes they have seen in there life-time. Such as the changes in culture, objections, rejection, and conflicting ideas about God's Truths, break-down of families and more, but we as believers need to keep building our homes "on the rock" of Jesus. "It's about being the kind of lifegiving home culture that will stand as a testimony of God's biblical design for a family to a lost world whose sandy foundations are washing away." I love this reminder from the book, to not panic, or fight, or give up, but to keep going, keep believing, and never give up the vision of home. "When things are changing around us, we stay faithful and stay the course. In that path alone we'll find peace in the midst of conflict."

The book also points to parents need for Christ. "You must feed your own spirit to have something to feed your children's spirits...make sure your well stays filled so you'll have living water to give your children." "You cannot put into your children's hearts what is not first in your own heart, and it will only get there through an active and purposeful relationship with God. You are the key-truth transmission begins in your heart." "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)."

"Training is more than just behavioral conditioning; it is shaping and forming the heart. Training is an ongoing sharpening process in a child's life of reinforcing the truths of God."

I like the layout of this book, as they share personal stories from there parenting journey, along with lots of biblical truths and scripture throughout, they also provide personal and practical ways to respond, with a short recap at the end of each chapter and a suggested action step to take to implement lifegiving parenting in your home. At the end of the book are some great resources to use in your family.
