Product Description

Trigonometry: Expanded Edition is the fourth book in the Life of Fred High School Mathematics Series, and is designed for students in 12th grade who have already finished the preceding Beginning Algebra, Expanded Edition, Advanced Algebra, Expanded Edition, and Geometry books. This new edition of Trigonometry replaces the both the earlier Life of Fred Trigonometry and Fred's Home Companion Trigonometry books; it also contains all problems completely worked out.

Ten and a half chapters with multiple sub-lessons (94 total) are included; each chapter also has a "Looking Back" half-chapter that reviews previously-taught math students will need. Half-chapters are optional for students who have mastered algebra, and segregated so that students don't unnecessarily waste time reviewing content, or so that they can easily identify problem areas. Each lesson ends with a "Your Turn to Play" segment with a small number of thought-provoking questions. Answers are provided on the next page for students to go over themselves after attempting to solve the problems. Chapters conclude with three problem sets, each of which is named after a city. This full-year curriculum will provide students with a thorough knowledge of Trigonometry that will prepare students for college-level math, while fifteen final chapters specifically prepare students for calculus. The book concludes with an ART (All Reorganized Together) section that provides a convenient summarization for test review.

Trigonometry covers: Angles of elevation, Definition of the sine function, Angles of depression, Heron's formula, Review of graphing and significant digits, Discrete and continuous variables as illustrated in The Merchant of Venice, Tangent function, Why we create new mathematics, Ordinal and cardinal numbers, Cosine function, Graphing y = sin x, Identity function, Contrapositives, and lots more.

Life of Fred is a unique, complete (not supplemental), math program that uses a highly engaging narrative to teach math without fear and with enjoyment. Students follow the life of Fred Gauss (a math professor who grows up to the age of six), who has many humorous, unlikely, and zany adventures over the course of the curriculum. Math becomes relevant and important because the need for math occurs in Fred's life (and he sees math everywhere). Witty and truly entertaining, these books will engage students in a way unlike any other math program - --while also instilling a solid understanding of the principles of mathematics without an abundance of repetitive drills. This series is perfect for inquisitive students who struggle with the relevance of math, or anyone looking for a creative approach to mathematic thinking!

496 pages, indexed; hardcover, non-consumable textbook with Smyth-sewn binding. Students write their answers on separate paper. Answers are also included in the text and written directly to the student.
