Publisher's Description

After ten years of study and consultation, UNICEF, the premier organization devoted to the care and welfare of the world's children, published the results of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Using these tenets as a base, A Life Like Mine profiles children from all over the globe leading their lives in different and fascinating ways. The challenges of nations both developed and developing are revealed in the stories and photographs in this special volume. DK and UNICEF have combined their inspirational forces to provide remarkable insight into children's lives.

This fantastic book is a great addition to any homescool. The pages are covered with beautiful photographs. The chapters are about things like: education, helath, access to water, work, play and such. Children from all over the globe describe their experience. There is also a section of the effects of war on children, and about children with disabilities. Other religions and cultural groups are obviously included in this book. We're using it with our Social Studies. It has been helpful in our prayer time for missionary work, as we are able to tell which people groups are not Christian, so the religious and cultural aspect has enriched the book for our family. My children love the book, and want to read on and on! For younger grades it adds some fun to Social studies. If you buy the book "Children ust like me", also by DK and Unicef, your children will have really have their eyes opened to the priviliges that us in First world countries have. Remember to look up the countries on the map and add a few crafts or cooking for a complete curriculum.
