Publisher's Description

Who loves young teens more than they could ever imagine? Who longs to give them self confidence and a strong identity, to help them be what they were meant to be? Jesus. Help youth workers introduce young teens to the radical messages of Jesus. This study points students to the supernatural power of Jesus Christ and the lessons He taught, which still ring true today for young people. From the miracle of raising Lazarus to Christ's own resurrection and ascension, students will be filled with awe and amazement that the eternally powerful Christ wants a personal relationship with them. Key themes throughout show the balance Christ showed between His power to heal and to cast out demons, and His tenderness to love and care for His disciples and followers, and for us. His parables communicate a spiritual truth or religious principle through simple, but powerful, stories that students can relate to.

The three four-week modules explain who Christ is, and how each of us can follow His example to a fruitful and fulfilled life.

How to Use the UNCOMMON Group Bible Studies

Each Uncommon group Bible study contains 12 sessions, which are divided into 3 stand-alone units of 4 sessions each. This is your leader's guidebook for teaching your group. Electronic files (in PDF format) of each session's student handbooks are available for download on the publisher's website (www.gospellight.com). The handouts include the "message," "dig," "apply," "reflect" and "meditations" sections of each study and have been formatted for easy printing. You may print as many copies as you need for your group.

Each session opens with a devotional meditation written for you, the youth leader. As hectic and trying as youth work is much of the time, it's important never to neglect your interior life. Use the devotions to refocus your heart and prepare yourself to share with kids the message that has already taken root in you.

These are wonderful lessons...I used this for my Jr. Church class, they had so much fun interacting with the activities. We have a small church, and one of the best things about this was that I could modify the lessons. On an average day, I only have 3 youth, and no adult help. So I work each one to fit my class needs. Each lesson the kids got involved asking questions, and i felt it really spoke to them, and helped them learn and understand.

This study is an age-appropriate (junior high) look at Jesus' miracles and parables (6 units each). The theology presented is perhaps more conservative than I might prefer but I can easily tweak that aspect of it. There are quite a few fun and creative activities suggested but they seem to be aimed at larger groups than mine (I have 8 youth at the most and no other adults) so I sometimes have to modify them. There are plenty of ideas to fill my hour of classtime.

The lessons are really great - I use this for a Junior Youth Group Class on Wednesday nights (grades 4-6). The kids seem to enjoy the lessons and the questions are really thought provoking. I also like that there are so many options for each lesson (two or three options for openers, message, games, etc. are included to adapt to different groups). However, the DVD was a little bit of a let down. All in all, a good product.
