William Smith5 Stars Out Of 5January 1, 2009William SmithI have written reviews of other Lloyd-Jones books before, and I cannot say enough about the ways in which the LORD has graciously used this man's ministry to grow me in the grace and knowledge of the LORD Jesus Christ. One of the great weaknesses in the body of Christ, in my opinion, is that we are not sure what the Bible declares to be the evidence of true faith in the life of the believer. This has lead to a devilish misuse of the title "Christian" in our world, and moreso in America. GOD in his grace has spoken through John in his first epistle to assure the believer that he can know beyond a doubt that he is saved, and by default, discern evidences in others as to their declaration of faith, and it's reality. Lloyd-Jones does a masterful job of clearly expounding this epistle, one of GOD's most blessed messages to his children. I heartily recommend anyone who loves Christ to read this book; you will be genuinely edified and encouraged.

On the contrary, his detailed study of every nuance is most welcome and, I believe, necessary. The Holy Spirit has mightily used these sermons to enable me to truly understand what it means to be a Christian -- all grounded in the person and work of Christ Jesus the Lord. To some, this may sound too 'doctrinal'. But as Lloyd-Jones wisely explains, one cannot have the practical until one first has a clear comprehension of the doctrinal. Far from tedious!

Tom Dominski5 Stars Out Of 5November 25, 2008Tom DominskiThis book is outstanding. I have read the Sermon on the Mount and Spiritual Depression, but this one is the best. MLJ really covers all aspects of Christianity including God's Love, the Holy Spirit, and many other topics. If you really want to get a good understanding of the Christian faith, I highly recommend this book. Sometimes MLJ repeats himself, but remember this is a sermon.

It's a challenging read, but worth the effort.
