Furnituremaker5 Stars Out Of 5Life in Christ: Studies in 1 JohnNovember 27, 2018FurnituremakerQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had previously several single volumes of this work, but when I learned that all 5 were now together in one set, I jumped at it. DMLJ is without question one of my top "go-to" expositors. I have practically everything from him that is published. This series in 1 John is outstanding, as all his other works. These sermons were preached in the late 1930's to 1940's and at times it gives you an inside look at the thought of that day (pre-WWII). He is the best of the best in expounding a text. Highly recommended!

On the contrary, his detailed study of every nuance is most welcome and, I believe, necessary. The Holy Spirit has mightily used these sermons to enable me to truly understand what it means to be a Christian -- all grounded in the person and work of Christ Jesus the Lord. To some, this may sound too 'doctrinal'. But as Lloyd-Jones wisely explains, one cannot have the practical until one first has a clear comprehension of the doctrinal. Far from tedious!

It's a challenging read, but worth the effort.
