Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer, senior pastor of The Moody Church in Chicago since 1980, is an award-winning author of more than 30 books including Life-Changing Bible Verses You Should Know. A celebrated international conference speaker and the featured speaker on three radio programs heard worldwide, he and his wife, Rebecca, have been married nearly 45 years. They have three married children and eight grandchildren.
Rebecca Lutzer has used her gifts of hospitality, mercy, and teaching to minister to many women. She is an RN and enjoyed working as a surgical nurse for several years. She and her husband, Erwin, coauthored a book on the women in the life of Jesus and how He changed their worlds titled Jesus, Lover of a Woman’s Soul.

Early on, they state that the "purpose of this book is to bring about real change in your life the kind that happens when you take the time to both memorize Scripture passages and grow in your understanding of the basic doctrines and teachings of the Bible." They encourage readers not only to read every chapter, but also to memorize the key verses and hide them in their hearts to help keep them from sin, encourage faithfulness, and to sustain, comfort, direct, and strengthen them in their daily walk with the Lord.
The verses they chose for the book came out of answering two questions: "What topics would be most appropriate for critical aspects of Christian living?" and "What are the summary verses that encapsulate the heart of these scriptural teachings?"
The chapters are too short for a thorough study, especially on more than one point at a time. This is a good book to read in addition to a regular Bible study. The Lutzers direct readers to Hebrews 4:12 and Joshua 1:8 as biblical encouragement to memorize and meditate on the Scriptures. The topics and points they address are pertinent and thought-producing. The book is not meant to be read in a hurry, but should be pondered and discussed. Each chapter is about four pages, addresses one topic, and provides one or two key verses to accompany it at the beginning. After the key verses, the Lutzers give a devotional on the topic with supportive anecdotes, and then they end each chapter with a few discussion questions. At the end of the book they provide 25 pages of additional memory verses for the topics.
