I originally read the first edition in my 20's, where I was introduced to the idea of my sin being a result of believing a lie. Just as in the original, this updated copy not only helps to identify lies we may believe about God, sin, and ourselves, but it shines light on truth from God's Word to help fight back those lies. I appreciate the new chapters included in this updated and expanded edition that address issues current with our day. I have been able to use this book in even training my children. For example, I've been able to teach them that they do not need to be controlled by their emotions, but rather fix their minds on truth.

One weak point of the book, in my opinion, is the chapter about children. While the author makes many good points, it felt incomplete, leaving me wanting more answers in regards to wisdom pertaining to family size. Other than that one section, this book has been influential in my everyday thinking and fighting sin with truth. I recommend this book to any woman who desires to grow in godliness.

(I have received a copy from the publisher for an honest review.)

I was blessed by reading Nancy's new book! She helped me identify 'new' lies, and re-assess other ones I may have either heard growing up or even believed about myself over the course of my life. These lies had long-lasting impact indeed. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth outlined every possible lie in her new book (e.g. lies about God, ourselves, about sin, our priorities, sexuality, marriage, children, emotions and even about our circumstances); she further acknowledged the adversary's role and teaches us 'how' to replace every lie with God's truth.

The Truth will set us FREE for a lifetime!

I highly recommend you take the time to read every page, familiarize yourself with each of the lies women tend to believe in, apply insights and nuggets to your personal life, renew your mind with God's Truth often, and your soul will forever be touched and refreshed without a doubt.

The first edition of Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free was very good. It stimulated discussion among women in my church. I have compared the first edition with the new and revised edition.

Running through both editions is this theme: When we believe lies about God, ourselves, sex, marriage, etc., we are in bondage. The truth of God's word has the power to set us free.

The second edition displays a deep understanding of the complex issues that women face within the current culture. I have truly enjoyed reading it. I know I will go back to review the truths that are confirmed by Bible verses, listed at the end of each chapter.

A chapter on sexuality has been added to this new edition. Dannah Gresh participated in writing the chapter. She shares her personal story and perspective. Dannah provides examples of the way that women are wounded in sexual relationships, along with the healing and forgiveness that is offered through Jesus.

In the chapter about marriage, Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth discusses the difficult and often misunderstood concept of submission. What does it look like in a marriage? "God created Eve to be a helper suited to Adam. The Hebrew phase [ezer] means 'a helper matching him' or a 'helper corresponding to him'." p. 169

Nancy gives examples from the lives of a variety of women, including her mother. She shares insights that she has garnered in her three years of marriage. She also addresses domestic abuse. It is never justified.

The chapter about children has been revised. Mary Kassian participated in the rewriting. I am glad that a brief history of contraception is included. The birth control pill became popular in the 1960s and led to the sexual revolution.

"It would be hard to overstate the far-reaching, lasting effects of Margaret Sanger's life and influence. Our culture has embraced wholesale the idea promoted by Sanger and Planned Parenthood that controlling our fertility is a basic human right." p. 198

The reader is encouraged to know the way contraceptive methods work and to seek wisdom about children and family from the Bible. Couples should prayerfully seek God's guidance when making decisions. I appreciated the inclusion of Holly Elliff's experience as a mother.

Many aspects of motherhood are opportunities to grow in relationship with the Lord. Financial worries, parenting challenges and the mommy wars are addressed. In a world that is broken and full of deception we need to be pointed to the truth of God's word. This book does that. It is useful for personal or group study.

In full disclosure, I received a copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.

Wow, what an insightful book, perfect for individual study or group discussion. The author's examinination of 45 lies that people believe is eye opening, starting with the deception that began in the Garden of Eden by a cunning adversary, and how they can affect our thinking, and consequently our behavior. The vignettes with Eve and her perception of events were interesting. The need to study the truth of the Bible is so very clear too.

This is a book I will continue to want to read for years to come, and recommend to friends. It is a real hope booster! Recommend for any believer who desires a closer walk with God, and to improve relationships with others.

Very good questions and advice. I'm using it with two different ladies' as a home Bible study.
