A fun YA work set around a music contest

Liberty Lane O'Shea finds herself competing in the Royal Crown competition for Sir Frederick's Preparatory School. Just like Queen Esther, she finds herself dealing with a situation where being "created" for such a time as this comes true. Competing against someone willing to do whatever it takes to eliminate the competition, she decides between standing up and doing the right thing or caving in to blackmail.

The author creates an excellent version of Queen Esther's story set in modern times. I loved getting to know Liberty's cousin Lincoln along with her best friend Calliope. The trio works together to thwart the destructive efforts of her competitor. The author creates a story filled with faith, family, and friendship. This work of middle grades fiction strikes the perfect balance of humor, competition, and Biblical values. So check it out for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This is a fun book for preteens and young teens though it is a cute book for adults to read also. I liked the trouble that Liberty got in to during the contest and the new friends that she made during it also. I liked the use of the scriptures throughout the story also. This was a fun mystery and hope she will have more to solve. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

This review was written for Liberty Lane and the One-Girl Rebelution.
This is a great read for tweens! Can you imagine if you were put in the place of Esther/Liberty? Because of course we are here for such a time as this and it's great for our tweens to remember that. They aren't an accident!

Liberty stands up for what she believes is right and often what she thinks is right is important to a tween. Esther was tested and so will Liberty be tested. And so will our teens. Let's arm them with wholesome books like this, that follow scripture and characters who set a good example. With humor and fun characters, I'm sure your tween will enjoy getting to know Liberty Lane.

I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Liberty Lane and the One-Girl Rebelution should be a good read for middle grade readers and older. The story line is a good one, based on the story of Esther from the Bible.

Building around a singing competition provides a setting that will be familiar for most readers. There are lots of fun characters in the story, each adding their own unique flair. Some of the details appear a little unrealistic, for example, the way it seems junior high/senior high students are just kind of running free with little adult supervision; and there are some points in the story that seem a little disjointed. But I think the intended reading audience will move beyond those elements and enjoy keeping up with Liberty/Libby and her friends (and enemies).

The author draws from the story of Esther in several ways, some subtle and some not so much, without using a "preachy" tone. In the closing pages of the book she gives more detail and encourages readers to dig even deeper by going straight to the Bible.

Thanks to Celebrate Lit for providing a copy of the book. I am happy to share my own thoughts in this review.
