Makes you think and desire more in your life and doing 'church' together. Challenging to me and us to seek God's will for us today. I enjoyed his 'letters' and will encourage others to read these letters also. God desires we love Him.

Where to start to describe this book? Chan has obviously spent a lot of time looking into his own life and his own leadership. He saw much that he felt needed correcting, confessing, and/or repenting of. But he didn't stop growing through the process. This book describes that process and where it has taken him. I admire his openness to share this with whoever will listen.

This isn't an extended rant of what's wrong with the church in the USA, by a long shot. It is an honest look at where the church is, however. Some of it is not flattering or comfortable, but I have to agree with his most of his observations. He draws many of his observations from the time he spent with leaders in other countries where being a Christian has a much more rigorous and demanding meaning. One that Chan believes is much closer to the Biblical descriptions and practices.

Read this book slowly. Think about what he says. It's no easy read. It challenged me at many points, and some of those points were hard for me to examine in light of the Scriptures.

He ends his book with a description of the way he now leads others, freely admitting that he's not got it totally wired. He says, "Don't blindly follow the things I have written either. Study the Scriptures. Get alone with the Bible and the Holy Spirit. Seek Him with all your heart and surrender everything to Him. There cannot be anything you hold with a clenched fist, not even family. He is worth it." (196-197).

I preodered the book, and it came unexpectedly early. In this book, I feel like Francis Chan has digested, in his own experiences, to every details that the Churhes are doing wrong. It is like he is doing emergency operation on the Churches, taking out all disfunctional parts of the body and putting back all the parts as how they are supposed to operate in Christ.

This book challenges you to see the Church as God does, not as how tradition has taught us.

I preordered this book. It is a great value with many lessons to learn from it. This is a great read for a pastor or anyone who considers themself a christian. Prepare to have your eyes opened. This is a problem I have noticed in my church and it has discouraged me. This is a book that should make a person consider their church and the reasoning behind why they are attending church, and if they are getting spiritually renewed. Not just feeding into the consumption and traditions that the church has fallen into in America.
