I loved Warren and Doretta and how they helped each other after the loss of William. I loved how Eleanor helped Doretta through letters. I received a copy of the book from the publisher for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Overcoming GriefAugust 18, 2023MariIllinoisAge: 55-65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Letters of Comfort is an emotional and heartfelt story. Wanda Brunstetter's Friendship Letters series are are dealing with some tough situations for characters. This book focus on depression that the heroine struggles with after losing her beloved.
Wanda Brunstetter created a story that was captivating with all that was happening among the characters. I love the aspect of letters to uplift Doretta from her dear friend we met in book one. The ups and downs, family and community being present for those hurting and letting God heal to bring new hope, peace and love is beautifully portrayed throughout the story.

Depression is not something to hide or be ashamed of. Seeking help takes courage and God can help you find the right support.
Doretta in this story suffers from depression after and accident and the traumatic loss of her future husband. She holds on to a promise she made to her future husband that doesn't make sense to anyone but her. She finally comes to terms with her loss and finds her way back to trusting God and His guidance for her life. She sees that she can have a happy future and not stay in the pasts tragic events.

Susan B.5 Stars Out Of 5My favorite recent book of Wanda E. BrunstetterSeptember 6, 2023Susan B.Quality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This book has been my favorite of Wanda E. Brunstetter books I have read recently.
Book two in the The Frienship Letters series (it does help if you read Book One first--but is not 100 percent necessary), dealt with depression in a loving way.
Depression after loss is a real, often life altering and often debilitating.
When Doretta, the main character, faces overwhelming loss--she retreats into herself. A dear friend offers support as Doretta offered to her in the past.
The book came into my life at a perfect time because I needed a reminder of all that is good in the world with the help of friends, family and God.
Highly recommend this book! -
LindaKYAge: Over 65Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5Contemporary Amish Fiction of Love and LossSeptember 6, 2023LindaKYAge: Over 65Gender: FemaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Depression has taken hold of Doretta after a tragic accident takes the life of her soon to be husband and leaves her with severe injuries. Once an avid letter writer of encouragement to her friends, she no longer is able to write letters. In fact, she won't even respond to her dearest friend's letters, who is trying to help her during her time of deep need. Becoming withdrawn after losing the love of her life, she believes a husband and a family is now entirely out of reach for her, because she can never love another as she did her beloved William. Eventually, a deep friendship develops between Doretta and William's twin brother, who is also grieving the loss of his brother. Can Doretta ever love again or is she forever bound to a promise she made to William.
The book delves into the deep recesses of depression and grief but acknowledges that hope is always available through the love of God. Although Doretta turned away from the Lord, the Lord never turned away from her. He waited patiently for her to return to Him, and she was able to do this through the love of family and friends, who wouldn't give up on her. The author has beautifully relayed the message of never giving up on those who are suffering, even though they might turn away from us. They need us to remind them of the love God has for them. Maybe we should begin the lost art of letter writing.
