From the very first page of Book 1, students-and adults, too-can begin speaking French. They meet Alan, an elementary school student, and Simone, his new classmate from France. As the entertaining story of these two children unfolds in English, Alan finds himself speaking more and more French. There are no boring grammar lessons, no lists of verb conjugations to memorize, no endless drills. There are questions and activities in each two-page chapter, and each has a complete answer key for the teacher. Students follow the continuing story: Simone tells Alan about her friend, Michelle, who lives in Paris. Alan and Michelle become pen pals, and students read letters that Alan (and the students) learn some facts about French culture. Then Alan tells Simone his "big news."
