Nora Finding HopeAtlantaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5May 24, 2010Nora Finding HopeAtlantaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleMy eyes feasted on the cute and touching illustrations by Dan Andreasen as I read this entertaining book. The children in this story get all excited about spending the day with their Daddy. They think up all these exciting things to do with their daddy. They soon discover one of their favorite ways to spend time with Daddy is in giggle time, which includes a lot of laughing, hugs, and kisses. It is just as much fun and important as all the projects and adventures they had planned; like building a tree house, catching frogs and other exciting outdoor fun. Making memories with their Daddy to last a life time is the main thing no matter what.Karen Kingsbury has written a childrens book about having a Mommy Date a few years back. I enjoyed that book too. Its fun how the adventures in both of these books are so different. Mommy and Daddy dates are something my husband and I have done with our children. It has definitely created special memories I cherish. I'm so thankful that Karen had captured the essence of Mommy and Daddy dates in her books. It makes it more meaningful to read with your kids and grand kids!
JenniferBCanadaAge: 35-44Gender: Female5 Stars Out Of 5May 7, 2010JenniferBCanadaAge: 35-44Gender: FemaleKaren Kingsbury is best known for her best-selling contemporary Christian fiction for adults, but she is also making a name for herself in the realm of childrens fiction. Lets Have a Daddy Day is the latest in a loosely organized series of childrens titles celebrating family togetherness in rhyme. The story uses simple, warm text to follow a father and his two children (one a boy, the other a girl) in a day devoted purely to quality time together in the outdoors. My young children absolutely soaked in the atmosphere of intentional bonding time, and were soon asking their own Dad for a Daddy Day, before asking to read the book again, and again! This may be a difficult book for children whose fathers work away from home much of the time or who serve overseas, as it is devoted only to spending time with dad. Parents may also wonder if they can expect any overt faith messages, as this title is published by Zonderkidz. Surprisingly, there are no mentions about Jesus, God, or faith, just a simple celebration of family togetherness.Dan Andreasens lovely, action filled illustrations are rendered in a textured, muted palette and drew my children right into the story. All in all, this is a truly lovely book that has reminded my children of how much they enjoy spending time with their own father in outside pursuits.
Christy Lockstein5 Stars Out Of 5May 6, 2010Christy LocksteinLet's Have a Daddy Day by Karen Kingsbury & Dan Andreasen is a rhyming book about a dad spending a day with his children. First Mia's thoughts: I like it! I liked it a lot because I love my daddy. I like cover because it had the same raccoons from a page inside the book. My favorite page is the one where they are wrestling, because it makes me feel happy inside! It gave me lots of ideas of things to do with my daddy! I love the artwork because it's all about family and is have cute things like raccoons! Now my review. I really loved the book's concept. The dad is suggesting a range of activities to do with his children, and if one doesn't work because of weather or other circumstances, he has another fun idea at the ready. At the end, he reminds readers that they don't need special weather or equipment to spend a fun-filled day together, because as long as they are together, it will make a wonderful memory filled with love. Kingsbury tells the story in neat rhyming couplets that make the story run smoothly and capture the reader's ear. Andreasen's art has a bit of a retro feel, and the colors are all muted, making this a perfect bedtime story. His animals are realistic but with a sense of whimsy. Kingsbury reminds readers that it's all about the time together when it is spent in love.
