Kathy5 Stars Out Of 5Language Arts the Natural Learning WayApril 16, 2014KathyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The language arts curriculum we were using was advertised as "literature based." However it did not live up to our expectations and turned our child off of the subject of language arts. We began to search for a literature based curriculum which taught language arts in a gentle, engaging format. Our search ended when we discovered "Learning Language Arts Through Literature."
Learning Language Arts Through Literature is based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Ruth Beechick and her natural learning methods as outlined in her books, "The Three R's" and "Language and Thinking for Young Children." The curriculum is written by Debbie Strayer, a homeschooling mother and teacher. Learning Language Arts Through Literature Blue Book is a language arts curriculum which teachers phonics, spelling, reading, grammar, vocabulary, handwriting and higher order reasoning skills using such children's classics as "Who Took the Farmer's Hat, Goodnight Moon, Blueberries for Sal, Make Way for Ducklings, The Snowy Day." In addition to classic children's literature Learning Language Arts Through Literature incorporates hands on activities, cut and paste, word wheels, flip books, picture sequencing, readers, story telling puppets, and handwriting activity pages. The student workbook is consumable. The instructor's guide leads you through the curriculum. Everything is explained in the lesson as to what you will be covering for the week and what supplies are needed.
I can not praise this curriculum enough!
It utilizes choice selections from children's literature to teach language arts in a gentle, fun, engaging matter.
The teacher's manual is a dream come true. It is so well orgainized you can literally pick up the manual and begin teaching.
I give this curriculum an A+!
Q: I have 4 kids that I will be using this with. Do I need a student book for each of them or can I photo copy?
This item is not reproducible. Each student would need their own book.
Q: Teacher's manual is it priority? Do I need to buy the Teachers Manual or can I get buy just buying student workbooks for Learning Language Arts through Literature curriculum? I have to get two grade levels. I was looking to simply the teacher manuals and just do them as workbooks? please help
It is best to have both the Teacher's Guide and the Student Book when using this series, since the Teacher's Guide features the answers adjacent to a reduced view of the student page and is missing the enrichment activity pages found in the Student Book. Both the Red and Blue LLATL books require not only the Teacher's Manuals, but the readers that are included in the kits, so purchasing the full kit is recommended for these levels.
