Memory verses and devotions that will write Gods word on your childrens hearts.
In this 52-week devotional for children, author Holly Hawkins Shivers adapts the gift book The Joshua Code (written by her father, O.S. Hawkins) into a devotional that will help kids learn and live the scriptures. Using kid-friendly language, I Can Learn the Bible teaches scriptures in a way children can understand. Each week, kids will commit a new scripture to memory by reading a fun, engaging devotional thats doable for a child. Matthew 7:7 will remind kids to always ask God for help. Philippians 1:6 will teach them that God is always working in their lives. And 50 more scriptures will continue to write the truth on their hearts so that they will remember it forever.
Parents using the gift book will love using the kids book as a discussion tool for the entire family. A great gift for baptisms, confirmations, and any special occasion, I Can Learn the Bible includes clever tips for memorizing scripture. Each new day and each new verse will reinforce to young readers that "Gods Word is FOR ME and TO ME, it is IN ME and working THROUGH ME, and just like His love, it goes on and on forever!"

As a Christian educator with an emphasis on children's ministry, "I Can Learn the Bible" is a rare find; a wonderful combination of Scripture and easy-to-understand application. Formatted for weekly devotional use as a family, its practical approach to memorizing God's Word is unique and refreshing!
Based on God's words to Joshua prior to entering the Promised Land, "Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night. Then you will be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything." (Joshua 1:8), the author has given parents an easy tool to use with a wide variety of ages.

I mean, there are 52 passages in the book and it takes children on a five day journey to understanding and memorizing each one. The first one was John 3:16. After 5 days my children did not fully memorize the verse but they did understand the verse. I am satisfied with at least that much.
As a parent, I would definitely recommend this to other parents of children. How many of us struggle with teaching Scripture to our children? I know I do. Especially with thinking up ways to help them retain the verse and its meaning.
ChooseWiselyFredericksburg, VAAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5THIS with your kids in 2015!December 30, 2014ChooseWiselyFredericksburg, VAAge: 25-34Gender: femaleAt the start of a new year, my husband and I commit to getting back into the good habit of daily devotions with our two boys. We usually do a good job of it until the holidays hit and then we just want to get the kids in bed at a decent hour. This year, I am happy to have found this lovely new book by Holly Hawkins Shivers to inspire me begin again.
I Can Learn the Bible is the ideal one year devotional for parents to share with their children. Included is 52 Scriptures taken from several versions of the Bible including the International Childrens Bible, The New King James Version, and the New International Version. Some of the verses are not given as I remember learning them, mostly because I would have learned them in the King James Version. For instances, Week 1 is Genesis 1:1, In the beginning God created the sky and the earth. If I were asked to recite this verse from memory I would say, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
I love that this book is made to last all year and that it could be used year after year. I also find how the verses are explained to be ideal. It is though Shivers knows the questions my children are going to ask before they ask them. In my opinion, this devotional is appropriate for ages 4-9. It is written with both boys and girls in mind. The simple, yet colorful illustrations add to each week and definitely captured the attention my two boys.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Booklookbloggers in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and I have not been compensated.
Fitzysmom5 Stars Out Of 5Review from Rambles of a SAHMDecember 1, 2014FitzysmomQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Scripture memory has long been a part of my life. Several years ago I came across a wonderful book called The Joshua Code. It was a great tool to use for memorizing a Scripture a week. Now the daughter of that book's author has come out with I Can Learn the Bible which is designed on the same template to allow your children the opportunity to also learn a Scripture a week.
One of the things that I really liked about this book was the fact that it follows along with the original with the exception of one week. So it would make a perfect plan for the whole family to spend the next year studying and memorizing Scripture together.
The children's version is simplified but not dumbed down. The same concepts are taught to children just at an appropriate level to enhance their understanding of what is being presented.
From personal experience let me just say that there is nothing more precious coming out of a child's mouth than the life giving Word of God. You won't regret one moment of helping your child hide God's Word in their hearts.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
