Strong leadership in the church is exactly what God had in mind. However, very few people, Gene Getz believes, understand the biblical pattern for church leadership. He has written Elders and Leaders to unravel the mystery and alleviate the confusion surrounding this critical topic. In the first part of the book, Getz lays the historical and biblical groundwork for the position of elder. In the second part, he shares how he has applied or has seen these principles applied over the years.
GENE A. GETZ, a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, earned a BA from Rocky Mountain College, an MA from the Wheaton Graduate School, and a Ph.D. from New York University. He has served as a professor at Moody Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary. He is also a prolific author. Most of his 60 books have grown out of his experience as a pastor. The Measure of a Man has become a classic and is used around the world for personal and group study. His books The Measure of a Healthy Church and Elders and Leaders: God's Plan for Leading the Church (both published by Moody Publishers) remain breakthrough biblical studies for church leaders.Gene now serves as President of the Center for Church Renewal and has completed a 7-year Bible project using the Holman Christian Standard Bible. The Life Essentials Study Bible is the first Multi-Media Study Bible which contains 1,500 principles from Genesis to Revelation. He also airs a 2-minute daily feature on numerous radio stations called "A Principle to Live By" which can also be accessed by going to www.bibleprinciples.org where you'll also discover information about Gene's Life Essentials Study Bible.

Pastor Jerry Sneath5 Stars Out Of 5August 20, 2010Pastor Jerry SneathFor years I have been concerned that most churches leadership structure is out of line with Biblical Doctrine as taught in 1 Timothy and Titus.Any beginning pastor and new church must have this available in order to follow God's Word on leadership in their church.
Jason Todd5 Stars Out Of 5September 16, 2009Jason ToddI have read this book through at least once, and used it as a reference since many times. It is basically an in-depth study of the Scriptures (relating to the appointing and role of elders and deacons) with the purpose of defining what a modern elders ought to look like. This is a very valuable resource for anyone who is searching to discover how God desires to see the Church operate.
John Soucy4 Stars Out Of 5April 28, 2008John SoucyAt this point, I have skim read most of the book. I intend to order additional copies and study it together with my leadership team. I have been an adherent of Getz since reading "Sharpening the Focus of the Church" back in the 80's. His interpretation of Scripture, and specifically the main purpose of the Church, is right on. IMO, whether you intend to move toward an eldership, or are already there, knowing what God says about the character of the leadership is more important than your paradigm for governance.
Wayne McMorran, Prof. Emeritus5 Stars Out Of 5January 9, 2008Wayne McMorran, Prof. EmeritusI have not read the book in its entirety yet, but I have read enough to know that this is a book that every Christian in a leadership position (or considering one) should have and use as a reference. It is strictly Biblical as well as being very practical.
