I bought this book because as I have returned to reading the bible, daily, I started to have questions about the context of my reading. I find this book addresses many of my questions. Now, I read my daily devotions and look up the context of the appropriate chapter of this book. I still have other questions, so I am on the lookout for a more detailed book, but I am so happy with this one.
Attempting to read the bible and its different books can be such a daunting experience. At least it was for me, as I needed a global, bird's eye view of the holy book and I had no idea where to start. Yeah, I can go from beginning to end, but even that felt like such a task, even though I was raised in the church and had learned bits and pieces of the bible as doled out by the priests and nuns that shaped my childhood.
This book, Know your Bible is heaven sent. It gives cliff notes of all the 66 books, so you have an idea of where things are, what the purpose of each book etc...
Now I can read and study the bible in a way that makes sense to me, instead of feeling that I was biting off more than I could chew. I highly recommend it.
My son is 14 and we have been using this book as a general guide to who's who and where the various authors were coming from when they wrote the books. It's been really great since my knowledge of some of the lessor known Old Testament books was even less then I thought. The fact that my son and I are learning together is awesome. We share Hapkido, Kendo, Super Heros and chess among other things and this book fits right into this pattern of getting together (without the girls!!) and doing something really cool together. Only four stars because we both wished it was a more in-depth book. A few hundred more pages would have been much more engaging. I know it's not really meant to be that type of book, but they did such an awesome job.
