Publisher's Description

Based on Psalm 91:1-2. Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.

Oliver may be a brave and noble knight by day, but he is terrified of the dark by night until a wise old firefly helps him understand that God's Word is our light.

In this Scripture adventure, kids join Oliver as he hides under an eagle's wings, is hoisted onto the shoulders of a strong angel, tramples poisonous snakes, and even rides the back of a mighty lion.

Through it all, Sir Oliver learns that God always protects His children and that we are never alone, even when it is dark outside.

The first book in the Firefly Chronicle series brings entire sections of Scripture to life via imaginative, fantastical stories that use a passage from Psalms to help children understand and applly biblical truths to their lives. Each book in the series will depict Oliver wearing a different costume as he imagines and adventures his way through God's Word with the help of Phineas, the firefly. The series will address the felt needs of children ages 4 to 8 including courage, confidence, friendship and more with biblical truths about God.

The Knight and the Firefly was so needed in my family right now! One of my kids is similar to this storys little boy, Oliver, with the questions and worries that ONLY show up AT NIGHT! Reading this story together was a wonderful way to allow this child to hear the truths repeated that weve already shared. Thank so very much, Tara McClary Reeves and Amanda Jenkins, for backing us parents up!!

What a well written book with lessons from Psalm 91:1-2 The one who lives under the protection of the Most Hight dwells in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust. The illustrations are supper cute and colorful!! I love the bravery of Oliver and the honesty of his millions of questions at night. :) There is also a bonus feature called Parent Connection at the end. It allows the parents and kids to dig a little deeper and apply the truths of Gods Word that were presented in the book. Excellent addition!!

May this book be an encouragement to your kids and a reminder of Gods faithfulness all the time!

I received this book for free from B&H Publishing Group in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinion.

"The Knight and the Firefly" is the story of a boy, who by day is known as "Sir Oliver", a brave knight who protects his bug friends from being eaten by Doyle(a large frog). By night, however, Oliver's fear of the dark overcomes the confidence and bravery he feels through the day. With the help of his firefly friend, Phineas, Oliver studies Psalm 91, and discovers how he can conquer his fear of the dark.

This is not a run-of-the-mill look at fear of the dark. The authors do a great job of acknowledging a child's genuine fear, without making it the whole focus of the book. The story is fun and engaging from the start, and maintains that energy throughout the story. I love how the Bible is naturally incorporated into the story, and is delivered in such a way that my children(8, 5, 3) understood what Phineas the Firefly was trying to explain to Oliver.

The illustrations are a fantastic accompaniment to the story, bright and engaging, helping to further attract the reader's attention to the story. The pictures even kept my 1yr old interested!

The only issue I had was that some of the language didn't seem to flow well. It took me a couple of times of reading it out loud before I figured out the rhythm required to read it fluidly. This, however, could be just me, and I don't believe it took away from the lesson the authors are trying to teach.

An added bonus is a study guide for parents to further explore Psalm 91, and the story, with their children. There is also instructions on how to make your own paper wings. My kids enjoyed this component as well, though we haven't made our wings - yet.

I really enjoyed this story, as did my children. I would gladly recommend this to any family, especially if you have the issue of children being afraid of the dark. I received a free copy from B&H Publishing Group, in exchange for my review.
