I really enjoyed reading this book! Each section of this book contains stories that tie in with lines from TobyMac's song, "City on Our Knees". A must-read for all Christians looking for inspiration of prayer and Faith in the world -- past and present. Both an enjoyable and inspirational read for Christians and non-Christians alike. Sure to inspire you to make a difference!

TobyMac is a very talented Grammy Award winning artist, producer and songwriter. His single "City On Our Knees" which spent 13 weeks as Billboard's No. 1 Christian Song was the inspiration for this book with the same title. In this book he has a vision of how much better the world would be if we were not divided, if we would just turn our attention to the only one that can unite us - our God.
Included in this book are many stories from across the world and from olden times along with modern day times. Stories that show what can happen when Jesus Christ is in control, the one who made the difference, but He did it using someone like you or me down on our knees. Here are a few examples:
Like the four-year old who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, which is a form of cancer, who through the simple start of a lemonade stand raised over one million dollars for cancer research. She wanted her doctors to find a cure, so other kids did not have to experience what she was going through.
Nadia Bloom who was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome taking a nature walk near her home in Florida became lost. Four days later after the search had been scaled back, James King refused to give up. When the sun rose on the fourth day he entered the swampy area in Florida determined to find Nadia. He had attended church with Nadia's family and felt God's calling to "Find Nadia." While searching James was in constant prayer, he felt the Lord leading him to follow the rising sun. After two hours he called out to Nadia and the reply he heard was "What." Nadia was rescued because King was in tune with God.
These are only two examples from this book of what can take place if we will just turn our hearts and minds over to God. TobyMac is challenging us to quit looking at the differences and focus on God. And we can do that in prayer and showing our love of Jesus Christ to others.
MY THOUGHTS: I highly recommend this book to everyone. It is very interesting and a very easy read. The stories included are compelling and make you realize God uses every one of us. You can make a difference; all it takes is being in tune with God and listening to Him. Grab the book and read it, you will not be sorry.
City on Our Knees by TobyMac is a inspiring read for anyone wondering how they can make a difference in the world. TobyMac is well known within the Christian community for his years in the back dc Talk and more recently his time as a solo performer. His recent CD and song, with the same name as the book, inspired him to put together this book filled with anecdotes and quotes about stepping up and making your life matter. The stories range from centuries old tales of revival and the power of prayer to recent stories of children starting charities or miracle rescues. The chapters are titled by lines from the song with stories relating to that theme in each. TobyMac also heads each chapter with a "blog" giving the reader an taste of the ideas within. I loved the many quotes from Scripture and famous theologians that give depth to the chapters and spent much of my time reading with my journal nearby so I could jot many of them down. The book is truly inspiring and gave me an answer to a question I had asked the Lord. Who knows how it will touch you?
In the latest book, City On Our Knees by TobyMac, he takes some stories of people who are doing just that, putting aside their differences and making the world a better place while we can. It's a life changing book that combines stories of the past with some of the very present and shares with all of us just how people are making a difference.
Based on the hit song by the same name, the book is a compilation of stories of people who have stepped out in faith to minister to others and make a difference in their communities and, in some cases, around the world. While some of these featured activists are quite well known in the Christian faith (such as John Wesley and George Mueller), there are many other stories of those who you've likely never heard of. The stories range from the 1800s to present day, and cover a wide range of ages, backgrounds and circumstances. The common denominator is a desire to make a difference in the name of Christ.
The author has his own prayers scattered throughout, along with verses from the Bible that fit each story. I will end this review with his:
