Debbie MWisconsinAge: 45-54Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5A very basic Bible, margins aren't big enough for in-depth studyJanuary 20, 2015Debbie MWisconsinAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1My thoughts:
This is a very basic Bible. A no-frills Bible, if you will. It does have larger margins, but only on the side, as well as the bottom of the page, for a total of 2 margins. The print is a bit smaller than my regular study Bible. It does have a limited concordance in the back, and no maps.
The extra margin space does not give me enough room to write in, though. You can add a couple of words for clarification in the margins, and that might be fine if you are just hearing random sermons. Right now, our pastor is going through the book of Revelation, and there just isn't enough room to write just a couple small words in the margins. I assigned the column closest to the left or right side of the page for the closest margin, and the inner column assigned to the bottom margin. Then, I use stars and asterisks (and in different colors) to be able to find my clarification in the appropriate margin.
This is neither here, nor there, but upon flipping through the pages of the Bible, there is a blue tint. It's not too distracting, but it's not a pure white page.
It has been very sturdy, being carried back and forth to church, as well as being used in our daily family devotions.
So, if I had to decide which Bible to use, this would be nice in a small study, but not in-depth expository preaching.
I received this hard cover KJV Note-Takers Bible free, from Book Look Bloggers, for my honest review. The opinions were my own. :)
revmattsherro4 Stars Out Of 5Very Nice. Might leave something to be desiredJanuary 19, 2015revmattsherroQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 3I want a Wide Margin Bible for study and I want a thin/smaller Bible for carrying with me; those used to be mutually exclusive concepts
The KJV Note-Takers Bible from Zondervan is a departure from previous wide margin editions. This time it is essentially a thin-line edition with wide margins. I like this idea but there are a couple things missing that I wish were there. Without further adieu, lets begin
Full KJV Text
1 1/8 outer margin
Red-letter (I could really do without this in a Bible meant to be written in)
The first thing you notice when you open this Bible are the delicious margins. At a generous 1 1/8, you will find plenty of room for writing. As I have said of other wide margin Bibles, this is where the magic happens. Personal Cross References, word studies, that point from the sermon you just cant forget; all this and more can be found in these generous margins. Even though the Bible contains the same text for everyone, God does not speak the same things to any two people. Your personal walk with God; the record of it is here.
Text and Layout
This is an 8-point text but it is very readable for being so small. It is an understandable trade off for the portability. The double column layout is also necessary to have the smaller footprint.
Generally, a red-letter text does not bother me. Here, though, it is a real irritant for me. I use more than one color of ink and the red is definitely going to get in my way.
The concordance is 64 pages with 2 columns per page. It is fairly standard and not really anything to get excited about.
What I wish was here:
References. While my usage of references is intermittent, a huge number of readers would really benefit from having references included. This could easily be accomplished using a side column reference format.
A premium edition. Genuine leather or calfskin would be very nice.
Overall I really like this Bible. It is kind of niche but something I would recommend to any Bible student.
Carrie ShindorfCosby, MissouriAge: 45-54Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Leaves Much To Be Desired~ Sorry Zondervan!January 9, 2015Carrie ShindorfCosby, MissouriAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 2Value: 2Meets Expectations: 1I have a fetish with my Bible. When I look for a new Bible I can't part with my old one. I mean I have notes and special dates marked in my Bible. I have moments in time when God spoke to me that is noted in my Bible. My Bible is a spiritual journal so-to-speak to me. So when I had the chance to review this Bible I jumped. I am a note~taker when it comes to my Bible.
However~ when the Bible arrived I was greatly disappointed. While the Bible does have some extra room ~ it is very boring in its layout. It is a hardback cover and just doesn't have a nice feel. I think this book is more of a table- top book not like a Bible I would want to read every day and carry with me.
It retails for $34.99 which is way over priced. I am not at all impressed with this Bible~ sorry Zondervan. I rate this Bible a 2 star only because the content is God's Word but the publishing of this Bible leaves much to be desired.
JayJInman, SCAge: 25-34Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5The cover tells all....January 1, 2015JayJInman, SCAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 3Value: 3Meets Expectations: 1I was so excited to be able to review the KJV Notetakers Bible: Bibles are always the best choice to pick because one can never get enough Word! And one you can take notes in, all the better. Imagine my surprise and sad dismay when I opened my box from Zondervan to discover this hardcover tome with its bland matching dustcover. I read Romans just to get the feel for this printing of the worlds best selling Book but my opinion didnt much change.
The Word remains the same (forever settled in Heaven, hallelujah!) but this edition doesnt give the reader much in way of presentation. The font is quite small, but clear, and there is a decent concordance in the back; still, only added feature of this Bible is a wide margin on the right side of the text and along the bottom of the page. For someone who can write small, neat notes and who likes to jot ideas as the Holy Ghost quickens them during their Bible reading, the Notetakers Bible would work quite well. But for me, who writes really tiny sermon and personal notes all over the margins, likes larger print, and loves commentary notes, colorful pictures, and detailed maps, I think Id try a different KJV Bible. (I received this Bible for review from BookLookBloggers.com for review and all opinions are completely mine.)
