This review was written for KJV Names of God Bible Hardcover.
If only they just had the KJV in the beautiful leather of the God's Word Translation. I love the Bible theme itself. The names of God really speak to me. I love the beautiful leather cover of the GWT translation of this Bible, but I do not like the GWT itself. I think it is an inferior translation personally. I still have the Bible because I love everything else about it. Please make a KJV in the leather of the other one!

While I do believe it is important to honor God by his Name, and not always by his title, this is a disappointing bible. First, the pages themselves are too transparent and there is obvious shadowing-through. Mainly, the editor confuses a "title" with a name at times. More importantly, Yeshua is highly controversial as a name of Jesus. The more accurate translation, in my opinion and that of the majority of scholars lines up with translating it as "Yah-shua". Yah as in Yahweh simply makes more sense than Yeshua, which is based on a Greek translation. Since Jesus states that he comes in the name of his Father, and his Father's name is Yahweh, then the only logical reference that rings true is Yahweh, the Father, and Yahshua, the Son. Yeshua is a very poor stab at accuracy. And Jehovah, or Jesus is worse, since the letter "j" did not even enter the English language until the fourth century A.D. Spangler, however, admits she doesn't have the linguistic skills of an expert, and unfortunately it makes a frequent appearance. She undoubtedly would have been overruled had a formal group of biblical scholars been tasked with the effort. This is the drawback of a single editor who doesn't have the qualifications needed for such a task.

I first enjoyed this in the God's Word Translation, then got the KJV for both myself and as gifts. The format is excellent- these 2 ladies know their Bibles, and give a 2-page exposition on almost 70 different names of God. This is a very devotional Bible, and as well, a great study on His different titles and names. The cover is also very neat, with some of His names written in Hebrew. The price is excellent; the size is good, the text is very readable.

I have collected Bibles since the age of 13, growing up as the Son of a Preacher Man.. Always wanted to say that. Anyway I currently own somewhere close to 150 different translations, "Ministry" Bibles (yes I own a PTL Bible).. Reference, Scofield, you name it most likely have it. This one however is now my main reading Bible.

I don't know how to begin to describe how it comes alive while you are reading it. Old and favourite verses take on a different meaning when you realize -forgive me here, I don't know how to shape what I am attempting to say- but you realize that you are dealing with a different aspect of the Lord which lends a different perspective then you had before. Forgive me my stumble I hope it makes sense to you. AllI can really say is this: buy the Bible. Use it for seven evenings and read favourite verses and passages. The second thing I can say, buy it quick before christianbook realizes that they are selling very cheaply.
