Product Description

Oxford is proud to announce a limited edition of the 1611 text of the King James Bible, hardcover with real leather covering, gilt edging, ribbon markers, gift presentation plate, and protective cloth slipcase.
This is the most authoritative edition of the King James Bible available. The text of the 1611 edition differs from modern editions of the King James Version in thousands of details, and this edition is the most authentic version of the original text that has ever been published. It follows the 1611 text page-for-page and line-for-line, reproducing all misprints rather than correcting them. The volume also reprints the large body of preliminary matter, which includes genealogies, maps, and lists of readings, as well as the translator's preface to the reader. The text features an easy-to-read modern font instead of the black-letter type of the original, with the exception of the original decorative letters and early page ornaments, which have been reproduced. The volume concludes with an essay by Renaissance Studies expert, Gordon Campbell, on the first edition of the King James Bible.
The 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible will be a major event, with celebrations held all over the world. This beautiful Anniversary Edition will make an elegant keepsake with which to remember this event as well as a marvelous gift for anyone interested in the Bible.

I was looking for one of the 1611 KJV Bibles because of the 400th Anniversary and stumbled upon this one. I saw that the price was right and went ahead and took the plunge.

When the Bible arrived I noticed that everything about yelled quality. The Bible is hardcover, but it is covered in a great looking Genuine Leather. The Bible also comes with a heavy duty slip cover that has gold stamping all on it.

When you open the Bible you will notice that the paper is amazingly thick and white. If you can understand the 1611 Old English, this is a wonderful reading experience. You don't have the problem of see through at all.

    This is vintage Oxford!

    Thanks,

    Be Encouraged:-)

Very nice. Some pages have very small print which is hard to read, but the book looks like a scrunk version of the original 17" bible. I just wish it had a more obvious 400th anniversary marking on the cover.

i expected to receive a CLOTH slipcase but it was the slipcase shown in the picture. i did not read the dimensions for it but i assumed it would be small enough to handle but this thing is huge. it is like those dictionaries you find in libraries. i was extremely disappointed when i came home and found this huge block on the table. i know this is probably the only bad review you will ever see about the bible from a christian but i was very mislead. the content will be good but the actual product is disappointing.

If you're looking for a copy of the original 1611 version that King James himself signed off on, then this is the book for you.:) It's got all the books included, including the Apocrypha that actually has a few more books than the catholic bible.;)

Q: Is this a facsimile of the blackletter edition or a reprint of the 1911 Roman type replica? A similar edition being produced by Nelson is specifically described in your catalogue as set in "Roman type for easier reading". This suggests to me it is a reprint of the 1911 Roman type replica which has always been available through CBD.So is the Oxford edition simply another edition of this, or is it in fact a facsimile of the original 1611 blackletter edition? The description "easy to read font" is more ambiguous.

A:

The text features an easy-to-read modern font instead of the black-letter type of the original, with the exception of the original decorative letters and early page ornaments, which have been reproduced.
