The day of her sisters death had also started Rebecca on her path to leaving the Amish.
Graduating from high school, going to college, becoming a nurse none of these things describe an Amish girl, but because of her sisters death, those are things Rebecca Troyer strives to do. She wont be caught unprepared for another emergency, not when she can learn the skills that could help save lives. Abandoning her family and Amish ways, she sets off on a journey to gain a worldly education. On the way to Portland, she makes a pit stop in West Kootenai, Montana, to visit a friend.
Caleb Hooley is on a life-changing journey of his own. After watching his grandfather fade away, he wants to live the adventurous life his grandfather always dreamed of. When this Amish bachelor goes on a week-long trek into the wilderness, falling in love was the furthest thing from his mind.
When Rebecca decides to join the traveling party, will one week be long enough for both she and Caleb to discover a Love greater than the tentative one growing between them? Will they choose to remain Amish, or will they leave everything theyve known to explore the possibilities the world has to offer them?
The Kissing Bridge by Tricia Goyer (the third installment in her Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors series) is an adventure not to be missed. With humor and spunky characters, this story digs deep into who you think you are and who you want to be. While Rebecca and Caleb were figuring those things out for themselves, I found myself getting tidbits that had to do with what I was going through in my own life. I consider them little confirmations of what God was busy doing in my life while I read this novel. He often works through novels with me because reading them is one of my favorite hobbies (I cant remember a time when I didnt love reading).
The harder part is relinquishing how I think things should happen and opening my heart up to what God wants. Thats a lesson we all have to learn eventually, to let go of trying to control every situation. Sometimes well be in control, but most of the times we wont. Things happen that throw our plans out the window. We have to make clutch decisions and alter our plans, but God always knows whats coming for us and provides options. Which door will we go through? Which opportunity will we take? Praying about what God wants for us is our way of tuning in to what God wants, letting Him lead us. Its not always the easiest thing to do, trusting God, but its always the right thing to do. And His blessings abound when we trust Him. We are His children, after all. Why wouldnt He bless us when we seek His will for our lives?
Thank you to Tricia Goyer for adding me to her reviewer list. I appreciate the complimentary book in exchange for my honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed The Kissing Bridge and highly recommend it to anyone who loves adventure. Especially the kind that happens through the pages of a book.
BeverlyOhioAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5God has a way of revealing our secrets and opening our hearts to lead us to His plan.August 6, 2014BeverlyOhioAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The horrible feeling of helplessness Rebecca felt when her sister died after giving birth has burned a desire in Rebecca's heart: a desire to help others, a desire to know what to do in the event of a medical emergency, and a desire to fulfill a calling from God. In order to live out those desires, Rebecca must figure out how to fulfill her dream. Will she have to choose between the Amish life and the life of the Englisch? Is there a way to work toward her goal while still living among the Amish?
This was an enjoyable read. The first half of the book lays out a great foundation for the sweet, sweet romance that builds in the second half. Caleb and Rebecca have an immediate attraction to one another, but a journey through the wilderness is exactly what they need to realize how God often directs our path even when we think we have our plan all figured out. God has a way of revealing our secrets and opening our hearts to lead us to His plan.
Ms Goyer's use of strong secondary characters helped to develop the story in a unique way. This was a great demonstration of how God uses the ordinary people He places within our lives to help us see what He has laid right at our feet.
A special thank you to Tricia Goyer and Zondervan for the opportunity to read and review The Kissing Bridge. A free copy was provided in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are strictly my own and no other compensation has been given in order to obtain a favorable review.

Rebecca lost a sister and felt called to leave Amish community to pursue nursing. She felt a call to help others so they would not have to die like her sister while she stood by helpless.
She stops in Montana to see a friend who had left the Amish community. There Amish and English lived together in a community.
She meets Caleb, a risk taker. He wants an Amish wife but one with spunk.
Both Rebecca and Caleb find faith in God.
This book was what I needed right now as I struggle with God's plans at this point in my life.
Rebekah and Caleb marry and remain Amish in an Amish/Mennonite church where they embraced Rebekah being a nurse.
Rebekah got the three things she desired. To be a nurse, to marry a good man and to be part of an Amish Church.

She is a great author. This is the third book in the Seven Brides for Seven Bachelors Series.
In this this book Rebecca loves her Amish life and does not want to leave it. The death of her sister has forever changed her life. Her desire to help save her people from harm by becoming a nurse is not something she can give up.
So with no other choice she hides the fact that she has been working on her requirements to go to College to become a nurse. Hurting her mother and father is not something she wants to do but feels she has no choice. She decides she must leave home but she will return one day to help her people.
Only a stop to visit an old friend complicates her life even more. There really is no room in her life for a a handsome Amish man running from his own issues. How can Caleb fit into her already uncertain life? She must get to college and get her nursing degree and leave Caleb behind too.
I had a hard time getting into this story at first but really enjoyed it once it caught my attention. I rate the book 4 stars. I love that is is a continuing story!

This book focused on a new group of people and their secrets. I liked Caleb from the start. He is a take charge kind of guy and holds no punches. It felt like the relationship between Rebecca and Caleb was natural and not a forced thing as sometimes authors try to make two characters fit. I like Rebecca's reason for her secret and I was routing for her the whole time. Will they end up together or will their secrets keep them apart? Tricia Goyer weaves a fascinating tale that kept me going to find out what will happen next.
