Tell us a little about yourself. My wife, Ruthie, and I have have recently entered our fifth decade of marriage. I am a counselor, consultant, pastor, and public speaker. We have nine married children and 16 grandchildren and growing. We team teach life-building seminars together for business, leadership, marriage, men's groups, women's groups, overcoming a wounded heart, and more. Presently our focus is in the US and the Caribbean.
What was your motivation behind this project? I assisted a young consultant with one of his faith-based clients. I pointed out places his leading was in competition with the principles of God's Kingdom. On the way home, my friend asked me how often I use these kingdom principles in my counseling and consulting. My answer was, that's all I ever need to use. That night I decided to write this book and include the core principles not often taught, not often learned, that cause businesses, ministries, marriages, and teams to fail, and on the other side--to succeed.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I expect my book to transform lives. It is a "culture of thinking aligned with God" that will birth great teams and amazing productivity. I see these principles consistently changing the way people lead and live, solving problem after problem.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? The more I wrote, the more I received to write. I am ready for Kingdom Culture: Part Two! People ask me what I do and I answer, what all leaders are designed to do--I teach people how to think!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I get inspiration mainly from books of all sorts. I don't just read safe books that I may agree with each perspective, but I stretch myself outside of my narrow tunnel. I read secular leadership books, and sacred. One of my favorite Kingdom Culture books is A Tale of Three Kings, by Gene Edwards, and I scarf up everything Bruce Main writes beginning with Why Jesus Crossed the Road.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The power of this book emerges when it is processed in a group setting. Take time to answer and discuss the questions at the end of each chapter.
