Phone Tree Review: As soon as I got this book in hand, I knew that I would love it. It was so colorful and so visually appealing that it invited me into its pages right away. Because the subject matter addressed David shepherd boy, psalmist, warrior, worshipper and king, I was certain that it would be interesting. The truth of the matter is that this book is not only interesting, but it is also very thoroughly captivating. With rich details and meaty content, Get to Know King David is a dream come true for parents who want to provide their children with a good, solid Biblical education regarding key figures from the Bible.

If you read my blog regularly, you know by now how much I love this series of books. I have been able to review all of the books in this series so far and they are wonderful! They are packed full of information about different Bible heroes and the time period in which they lived. This biography features King David. We start out hearing about David the shepherd, the anointing of David, his music, and of course killing Goliath. The next several chapters deal with Saul's anger against David, David and Jonathan's friendship, David in hiding waiting for God's plan. Then it moves into David being crowned King and some of the battles and problems that his kingdom faced including David sending Uriah to be killed in battle so he could marry his wife. The last two chapters of the book talk about the plans for the temple and David's throne ruling forever through the Messiah.

In this biography, children get to not just read about the life of King David, but to experience it as well through color photographs, art work, and maps. Plus the book is full of definitions, historical information, Did You Know facts, and information about other Bible Heroes during David's time. This is a great, full color biography for your children to read and enjoy.

My son is infatuated with King David and when asked what Bible story he would like to hear he always requests King David. My son is under 10 years old and this book seems perfect for his age group. The book is easily understandable for younger children and offers plenty of intriguing pictures to keep a young one's attention. I, as a mother, even learned a few interesting facts about King David's day that I did not know so even though it's focused more for the younger generation the older generation can also learn from this book.

I appreciated the use of Scripture as well the questions asked throughout the book. I also enjoyed the highlighted words with their meanings in each chapter; the words and their meanings give younger children something to think about and add to their vocabulary.

All-in-all it was an enjoyable and educational read with my son - he didn't ever want to quit. I think any young child interested in learning more about King David and the Bible will have a wonderful time reading through this book.

I got this book to read with my 5 year old son. It is a small book with glossy colored pages with a lot of pictures of actual tools, maps, and things of the time you are reading about. It gives definitions to the bigger words a child might not understand. It is a lot of history and takes you on the story of David through a child up through the many stages. I really think this is a good tool to teach your child about David. It is edited for a young child to read so it isn't too violent or detailed in the adultery area. I would recommend this book for those with kids from 5 and up to around age 11. I enjoyed how it describes the linage from Adam and Eve to David to Jesus. It is great to teach your child how such an iconic bible figure wasn't perfect, but asked forgiveness and continued to follow Jesus.

Get to Know King David is a biography for kids by Nancy I. Sanders. What a great book! The book makes it easy for children to understand who King David was and brings to life the Biblical stories about him. I love the vibrant and beautiful pictures.

In addition to the colorful pictures, there are sections of the following:

Did You Know? - Which tells of small tidbits of information or facts

Eyewitness Account - Which is of historians of the time of eyewitness accounts that tell of the time about the time King David lived.

Word Bank - This is on most pages that tell the meaning of certain words. These words are also included in the Glossary of the book

Bible Hero - Tells of certain heroes from the Bible scriptures

Timeline of King David - Shows an approximate dates of King David's life and what was going on around the world at the same time

I think this book is great for kids and adults, as well. I enjoyed reading it. I was quite impressed with it. I look forward to other books in the Get to Know series.

I definitely recommend it to children so they can learn about King David.
