Product Description

It is the most famous execution in history. Its symbol is worn by hundreds of millions worldwide. Its spiritual meaning is recalled daily in time-honored rituals. It is the most passionately debated murder of all time.

In Killing Jesus: The Hidden Drama Behind the World's Most Famous Execution, New York Times best-selling author Stephen Mansfield tells the gripping story of the conspiracy to assassinate Jesus Christ and the graphic details of his torturous death. Approaching the tale at its most human level-an approach often neglected by worshippers of Christ and the unbelieving alike-Mansfield uses both secular sources and the biblical accounts to bring fresh perspective and fire to this familiar saga. Rooted in scholarship but told simply-and with vivid detail-this thrilling, page-turning account of the death of Jesus will fascinate and stir readers whatever their beliefs might be.

Note:
The content of this book is graphic and some readers may find it disturbing.

I have, of course, red and heard this story many times. This book, however, makes it real. The story is presented in such a way as to make it real. It gives me an even greater appreciation of the gift I am given through Christ.

The author doubts the resurrection. The death of Christ is meaningless without the resurrection! He takes an academic doubting position.

A very good read, it really brings home the death of Jesus. The resources and history of the culture of that time was well researched and applied to take you back to this time .

"Killing Jesus" a historic treatise on the sociopolitical atmosphere surrounding Jesus' crucifixion and what other writers of antiquity had to say about him, it is quite good. Mansfield lifts the veil on the syndicate that controlled religious commerce in Jerusalem and in particular, the Temple Mount. With great aplomb, Mansfield places the crucifixion of Jesus solidly within the historical narrative of first century Jerusalem, Judea and the Roman Empire. He helps the reader understand that the crucifixion of Jesus was a true, historical event.

He doesn't deal much with the resurrection and indicates his own doubt about the validity of the gospel writers' agreement on the resurrection. However, this doesn't bother me because the book is about Jesus' crucifixion, not his resurrection.

All in all, a worthy read.
