J ONYAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Helpful Study but...November 12, 2015J ONYAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 4Meets Expectations: 3We enjoyed using this character building book in homeschooling our 10 year old. The study is thorough and thought-provoking and helped my child make connections between scripture and her own behavior. (We made our own "flashcards" for each verse.) We went through the studies together and therefore did not really see the need for an answer key (as one reviewer noted the absence of one). I knew when I purchased the book that it used KJV scripture, and thought it would be easy enough to substitute the ESV version of the verse. My intention was to simply re-write the memory/theme verse at the top of the page (and for our flashcards) in ESV. Most of the time this worked out great-- but occasionally the answers to study questions were not readily apparent to my child in using an alternate translation and therefore frustrating for her. As we went along, a couple times I even chose a completely different verse in ESV to better illustrate the concept. The study would have been easier for us to use wtih ESV (or at least the NIV I grew up with), but it is still an excellent resource and have recommended it to others.
RyansMomSan Diego, CAAge: 35-44Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Wonderful....butOctober 27, 2014RyansMomSan Diego, CAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleI was so excited when I found this curriculum for my child's Bible study. I love it, I love the content.
However, two things are going to keep me from continuing to purchase the series as he grows. First, they use the King James version. I have to either 1) decode all the words my child doesn't understand or 2) have him cross reference with an NIV version to understand it. I chose #2, but it's more work for a 9 year old to do. Many of the answers are not apparent unless you are using the KJV, so your there's not much choice.
Second, there is no answer key! I know, I know, it's of benefit to go through it with your child... True. But when you've got 15 different curricula and multiple children, it's just not practical. I DO sit down with him and we go over the answers and have great discussion, but this is only AFTER I have looked up all the answers/verses on my own. I just can't do that.... time is a factor, unfortunately.
So, I would purchase this product again, in fact, I'd use the whole series through High School if they just offered an NIV version, and an answer key.
DKEANDallas, TXAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Ok...August 30, 2014DKEANDallas, TXAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 3Meets Expectations: 3I was wanting something to help teach my kids Godly characteristics from a Biblical standpoint. This book certainly has many characteristics that it goes through & they are based on verses. However, most of the studies only have 1 or 2 verses that support them. Perhaps I expect too much from my kids, but I would like it to be "meatier" on the Biblical side of things. They do seem to like it & learn what the Bible says about the characteristics, but ultimately, I want them to know Jesus, love Him, & trust in Him. This is a good dinner time discussion time book, but it will not count as our "Bible Class" for homeschool. I would like a bit more of a study format for that. I hope you understand what I'm saying! I don't want to be too negative, because it is a good book, but just not what I expected or was looking for.

But so far over happy with it. One this that I was not sure how I would feel about is that it dose not tell you were to start. So it took us a little time to see where we wanted to start.
Mandaloo2002OklahomaAge: 25-34Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Kids really like itJanuary 25, 2013Mandaloo2002OklahomaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleWe homeschool, so each morning before we begin our school work we use this for a bible study. It is really simple to use. My kids love the "If" part of the study. The only thing I do not care for is the verses are in the KJV, which can be hard to understand for some. I just look the verses up online and use a bible version that kids can easily understand.

Tell us a little about yourself. I have homeschooled all 14 of my children (still have one school-aged child). This is my 36th year homeschooling. Character has been a huge focus and we have seen it pay off in the lives of our adult children as they have learned to use Scripture as the guidebook for their lives.
What was your motivation behind this project? I have had parents for years ask me how we taught our kids to love the Lord and each other. Now that most of my children are raised, I have turned my attention to producing character curriculum such as I used with my kids in a form that others can use with theirs.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? We have asked our children what things we did with them they felt were beneficial to their lives and drawn from that to produce materials that will work for others as well.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? As always with homeschooling, I have learned so much from teaching my own kids. As I focus on teaching them God's Word applied in a practical way to life, I am learning with them- we learn as a family.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I read reviews of this curriculum on the site and found them very helpful to know how to best meet the needs of customers. We have addressed these in our current downloadable version of Kids of Character curriculum. First of all, we offer the KJV verses as always, but have included an option which gives you the reference, but let's your child write the verse from your preferred version. We have also included and answer key and referred to several versions when recording the answers so it's will work for whichever version you choose to use. Hope that helps.
