Keil & Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament, 10 Volumes: Updated Edition

Hendrickson Publishers / 1996 / Hardcover

In Stock
Stock No: WW73884

Product Description

A triumph of rigorous scholarship and sound theological judgement, Keil & Delitzsch remains one of the most popular Old Testament commentaries available. This commentary set includes a discussion of the nature of Old Testament literature, introduces each book of the Old Testament, and offers in-depth analyses of the Hebrew text. While the content is unchanged, its format has been updated, and some errors from the original have been corrected. This edition is newly typeset in modern, easy-to-read type, Arabic has been transliterated, biblical references have been changed from Roman to Arabic numerals, and long paragraphs have been broken into shorter ones so that the work is easier to read. Finally, please note that this edition does not include a CD-Rom.

Other features include:
  • Proofreading of all Greek and Hebrew words
  • Modernization of abbreviations
  • A custom-designed font that is more readable than the original
  • Standardized formatting for each volume (the original had different formats in each volume)
  • Movement of the commentary on Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther from volume three to volume four (to make each volume a more consistent length)
  • Continuous pagination in each volume, with a separate table of contents for each volume

  • **Please Note: This edition of the Keil & Delitzsch Old Testament Commentary does not come with a CD-Rom.**

    Editorial Reviews

"Keil and Delitzsch's Commentary on the Old Testament is a classic of the nineteenth century. It is popular with conservatives because of its theology. But its sharp insights mean it is by no means just conservatives who find it helpful--it is not uncommon, for example, to see it cited in the bibliography of an academic study. It is therefore welcome that Hendrickson have made it available in a lightly corrected version."

Great work with an extensive analysis that complements any other commentary on the Old Testament as well as Study Bibles. A very valuable reference work.

I believe in accuracy. I will give this a 3 for quality due to good construction. I will give it a 4 for value as far as the price of books like this go.

I however have a problem with the content. Accuracy. For those of us who are limited to knowledge of Greek and Hebrew, we have few choices. An inter-linear plus a concordance coded to Strong's or G/K numbering systems for example.

For a set of commentaries that are breaking down some of the Hebrew words to use a word for a name of God as decided by a set of misinterpretations is not being responsible for accuracy. The Hebrew word for the name of God is quite exact. The Hebrew charecters are, read right to left, YHWH. I will not mention the mistranslation for fear this review will not be approved, and I am not here to teach or preach. Accurate information is available.

However despite "some" inaccuracies, there is a lot of information in this set. But there are more than just one inaccuracy. I seek an accurate as possible answer to the exact truth. But. Even most interlinears have a number of problems. I've recieved information about these from scholars who have taken the years to study.

But, you decide. I just cannot reccomend this particular set.

Wonderful commentaries at a fantastic price. The books are beautiful. The text is clean and crisp. I haven't had a chance to explore the content too much yet, but I'm looking forward to doing just that.

These are wonderful Hebrew commentaries written in English. Since the Old Testament was written in Hebrew. Think it is a good idea to know what the Rabbis know that we have not known in centuries. These commentaries will help us find out. Bought 2 sets one for myself and one for a friend. The key to the New Testament is the Old Testament. These are truly excellent commentaries. Also you get a lesson in the Hebrew language as an added bonus.
