Dylan loves his family's yearly vacation to Holiday and wishes it could last all year. When he finds a flyer asking if he'd like to keep Holiday, he encounters a bigger and better Holiday than the one his family has always visited; he also learns that entering it requires the Founder's authorization. Thus begins Dylan's quest to meet the one of whom people keep saying: "You can't find the Founder; he finds you./He's not just the Founder, he's the Finder too."
As Dylan reads of Holiday's origins, he experiences a number of adventures and meets characters who represent the sights and sounds he always finds in Holiday-characters who explain how each of these familiarities points to the Founder's previous rescue of the city's inhabitants. And the more Dylan learns, the more he longs to personally know the one who holds the key to entering the "real Holiday."
Writing for elementary-age children and older, author, teacher, and grandmother Starr Meade offers a book that families can read together, discovering along with Dylan how God brings a person to faith. Keeping Holiday is also a charming, insightful way to help children grasp the meaning of the Incarnation.

The main character is a kind of selfish little boy who only wants to find the "real" Holiday. He imbarks on a journey with his cousion to find the Founder (who is also the Finder) of Holiday to get permission to enter the real Holiday. On this journey, they encounter many obsticals and learn of the many awesome things the Founder/Finder has done and continues to do for his people. It's a great story about discovering Jesus in your heart. Afterall who could be the Founder/Finder if not our Lord and Savior!

The story is riveting. The message is true. The characters are real. And, the hope presented is accessible. I recommend every parent have a copy of this fantastic book to read to their children. But, I'm no child and read it myself, and you see my review. I had an older family member read the book afterward, and their response was the same.

The book has a similar feel to C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia, with a similar pattern of symbolism. It's a book you can read to the whole family at Christmas. The viewpoint of the story is thru the eyes of two children, a girl and a boy. They go on vacation to Holiday and enter into a mysterious snowy world that they learn about faith. It is a unique way to tell the gospel in the fun Spirit of Christmas. I give 2 thumbs up to the authors' creativity!
