Product Description

Thomas Torrance's Karl Barth: An Introduction to His Early Theology 1910-1931 serves as a classic study of the development and influence of Barth's theology as well as an exploration of the period in which the Barthian revolution was shaped. Torrance not only provides a clear and convincing portrait of the early Barth and his immense range, but he also describes how Barth fits into the picture of theological Europe before and after World War I. For Torrance, Barth's passion and ultimate achievement place him alongside Augustine, Aquinas and Luther.

    Rev. John D. White
Thomas F. Torrance, the author of this book, was a student of Barth's in Basel in the late 1930's. Torrance was also the editor of the English translation of the Church Dogmatics. Though criticized by some for putting too much emphasis on "objectivism" in Barth's thought, ( and this does not mean that the charge is a correct one )Torrance is a matchless reader of Barth and this book should be one of the first books read by anyone wanting to know more about Barth and his theology. Torrance appreciated Barth deeply and his respect for what Barth did for theology in the 20th century comes across on every page. Do not overlook this book if you want to understand Karl Barth and his theology.
