John Piper presents a careful, reasoned study of the doctrine of election. He dissects Paul's argument to highlight the picture of God and his righteousness painted in Romans 9. Undergirded by his belief that the sovereignty of God is too precious a part of our faith to dismiss or approach weak-kneed, Piper explores the Greek text and Paul's argument with singular deftness.

David GoughAlexandria, VAAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5April 28, 2010David GoughAlexandria, VAAge: 55-65Gender: maleWhile preaching through Romans, I read this book. When it came time to preach on this difficult passage, I found Piper's exegesis to be extremely helpful. He will not satisfy all no-reformed scholars, but no one can dispute the care with which he handles the sacred text. If this is the first Piper book one reads, it could get heavy in a hurry; therefore, I recommend that the reader start with Desiring God or (as I did) Don't Waste Your Life. John Piper is truly a voice of proclamation for our times. My love for the Savior and my desire to glorify Him in all His holiness has increased exponentially as a result of Piper's ministry. When one is in the pastorate, he is forced to find food even as he feeds others. Piper has been this pastor's pastor...and I am the richer for it. Hopefully, so are my people.
Bob Brown5 Stars Out Of 5December 7, 2009Bob BrownThis is a well-reasoned, thoughtful, well organized commentary on a very difficult passage of scripture, which is important to an understanding of Paul's perspective on the future of the Jews, as well as salvation, generally.
Kelly5 Stars Out Of 5July 14, 2005KellyThe Justification of God is a thought provoking read. However, the book is a bit technical for the average reader.
Roy Ingle5 Stars Out Of 5March 21, 2004Roy IngleDr. Piper provides us with an excellent exegetical study of Romans 9:1-23. He writes in defense of Reformed Theology and the doctrine of election. This is a technical book and requires knowledge of the Greek text. However, even without knowing Greek one can easily grasp Piper's clear theology.
