I received a copy of Justice Delayed from Net Galley for my honest opinion which I have written here.
CozyWriter'sDen5 Stars Out Of 5A good mysteryMay 7, 2017CozyWriter'sDenQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This was a good read and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, non-graphic, entertaining murder mystery. After reading several incredibly graphic crime novels (from Christian publishing houses) recently it was really nice to read something that didn't make my stomach turn or give me nightmares. This is proof you can have a good mystery without resorting to awful graphic detail. Well done, Patricia Bradley! More Christian authors needs to take note of what you've accomplished here.
As to why else I liked it, I really enjoyed how the plot of this book was laid out! It was done a little differently, in that the forward of the book pretty much explains why Andi Hollister's sister was murdered and gives some large hints as to who did it. As the author jumps into present time and follows Andi as she tries to figure out the crime the reader is a step ahead. I haven't read a book written in this style for a while, and it was fun cheering on Andi and her friends as they wandered closer and closer to the truth. Patricia Bradley also did an impressive job on maintaining the suspense even though the reader does have the upper hand with the knowledge she shares in the beginning. It didn't get dull at all.
Another interesting part of this book that really got to me was Andi Hollister's narcotic habit. I don't want to get into it too much, but what starts out as an innocent prescription for a little of back pain slowly turns into a monster. What starts out as one pill on occasion, when her back is really hurting her, suddenly become ten then twelve pills a day as the stress of finding her sister's true murderer builds. Almost by accident, Andi finds herself in the sort of trouble she never would have dreamed would befall her. This fall into addiction was wonderfully and insightfully written. Again, well done Patricia Bradley.
The romance in this novel is tentative and sweet, but certainly not the main focus of the story - more like a nice side dish.
A well done novel and one that I would definitely recommend.
Thank-you to Graf Martin Communications and Baker Publishing House for a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
Rebecca ManeyGastonia, North CarolinaAge: 55-65Gender: female3 Stars Out Of 5Who Killed Stephanie Hollister?April 21, 2017Rebecca ManeyGastonia, North CarolinaAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4" . . . . . I need your forgiveness for not telling you sooner that I have proof you didn't kill Stephanie."
Words that could save a man from being unjustly executed for a crime that he did not commit, tucked inside a mysterious letter that vanishes as quickly as it appears. A message that could open, what everyone thought was an open and shut case eighteen years earlier, not to mention the traumatic effect it would impose on the victim's family and friends.
Andi Hollister and her brother Brad are outraged when their friend Detective Will Kincaide of the Memphis Cold Case Unit dares to insinuate that his cousin Jimmy might be innocent of their sister's murder. The man confessed at the scene, even though he later indicated it was under duress. As others who were associated with their deceased sibling, the night she was killed, rise to the surface, the evidence begins to mount up; some things about the case need to be reexamined so that justice is not delayed.
This story is filled multiple characters and intersecting story threads, which is to be expected in the first novel of a new series. Perhaps that could be distracting, or perhaps the reader will enjoy following a menagerie of trails, just as long as they all lead to the truth. Who killed Stephanie Hollister and why?
Angela SuzanneAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Riveting suspenseApril 9, 2017Angela SuzanneAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The suspense in this book was riveting. It kept ramping up until the conclusion. I thought it was an interesting take to have the main characters try to save someone on death row and prove that he was innocent of the crime he had confessed to. I liked that there were enough bread crumbs for me to feel like I was figuring it out but not enough for me to have it all figured out before the full story was revealed. There were a couple of loose ends that weren't tied together by the end and weren't really explained how they fit into the story. I don't know if those parts will come into a later book in the series but I doubt it. Overall, it was a well written romantic suspense.
lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5great adventure!April 8, 2017lcjohnson1988IndianaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5A friend of mine has read and enjoyed Patricias novels for a long time now not until I read her newest story did I fully understand the reason. In Justice Delayed, we meet a spunky woman named Andi whose sister was murdered many years ago. Even with the age difference Andi was close to her sister and became a journalist due to the last words she heard her sister speak to her.
In the past, four women stewardesses lived together and may have become involved in illegally smuggling rough diamonds into the States. While not technically a cold case, the man who is to be executed for murder in a matter of a few days receives a letter stating he didnt do the deed. Now, his cousin, who is a detective in the cold case unit, must try to find out the real perpetrator or the evidence that proves the mans guilt. The twist is they are related and Andi knows them as well, having grown up together in the same neighborhood.
Both Andi and her brother Brad and detective Will eventually come together to find out the truth about Stephanie even though their friendship is strained by the case. Will has issues with his birth mother and her coming once again into his life uninvited along with trying to keep Andi from further harm as she digs into stories that are dangerous. Add to that the growing feelings Will has towards her and vice versa and the story just keeps getting better and better.
I loved how well the author kept me guessing as to who committed what deed and how the various threads of different cases may come together to reveal a completed tapestry of truth. There are familiar issues, addiction, danger, action and adventure all while on the road to uncover the truth that has been buried for over a decade. I hope if you are not familiar with Patricia Bradleys books that you too will grab a copy and enjoy the mystery and the tension as it builds throughout the story all the way to the conclusion!
